Who are we?

Wakam is a European B2B2C insurer that designs white label insurance products for its partners (e-retailers, brokers and fintechs/insurtechs, etc.). Our insurance products are embedded in the products or services offered to the end-customer.

We operate in 32 European countries with the majority of our turnover generated outside France.

We provide most of our products through API, and hosts white label insurance solutions via our Play&Plug technology platform.

Why We're Hiring

You will be instrumental in shaping the organizational and Risk Management framework from the ground up, starting from the insights provided by the French framework. It's an exciting opportunity to create a Risk Management framework that perfectly suits our UK operations.

Your Mission

As the first Risk Manager in the UK, your mission is twofold - ensuring operational excellence while being at the forefront of Risk Management framework development. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Ground-Up Framework Building:
    • Take the lead in establishing the Risk Management framework in the UK from scratch.
    • Direct access to the Chief Risk Officer (CRO), providing a unique opportunity for learning and collaboration.
  • Risk Identification and Mitigation:
    • Conduct workshops with risk owners to identify risks, develop mitigation strategies, and establish control mechanisms (Risk Management register).
    • Maintain incident logs and ensure effective incident management.
  • Governance and Reporting:
    • Create reports for boards and management committees, contributing to informed decision-making.
    • Draft and update the company's Risk Management policies to ensure alignment with regulatory standards.
  • Collaborative Risk Setting:
    • Collaborate with risk owners to set Risk Appetite and Key Risk Indicators.
    • Identify and report on emerging risks, ensuring proactive risk management.
  • Second Line of Defense Monitoring:
    • Independently monitor and assess the effectiveness of controls as the second line of defense.
    • Provide ad-hoc support to prepare the Own Risk and Solvency Assessment.

To excel in this role, you should bring:

  • Cross-Functional Experience:
    • Experience in other business functions (e.g., Finance) is a plus, showcasing adaptability and a diverse skill set.
    • Confidence in dealing with people across various departments in Wakam.
  • Soft Skills and Influence:
    • Empathetic and brave, with a proactive approach to making things happen.
    • Comfortable with change and driving transformation initiatives.
    • Strong influencing skills, especially when working with risk management stakeholders.
  • Creative Framework Shaping:
    • Bring creativity to shape the Risk Management framework, making it relevant and valuable for all stakeholders.
    • Advantageous if you've worked in a B2B2C model, particularly dealing with risk management over outsource suppliers and distribution chains.

  3. Cross interview with France Chief Risk Officer
  4. Peer interview with Risk or Capital Management team member (optional)
  5. HR interview with Head of Talent or VP People & culture
