Andy founded Proton in 2014 to build an internet where privacy is the default. Our first product, ProtonMail, was originally developed to protect activists and journalists from surveillance. Proton services have since achieved mainstream popularity and are now used by over 50 million people around the world. Prior to creating Proton, Andy was a particle physicist at CERN where his research focused on supersymmetry and scientific computing. He received his PhD in Physics from Harvard University and also has degrees in Physics and Economics from Caltech. Originally from Taiwan, he is a long-time advocate of privacy rights and has spoken at TED, the Internet Governance Forum, and the Asian Investigative Journalism Conference on privacy issues.

Apprenez-en plus sur Proton AG

Proton was born in Switzerland in 2014 when a team of scientists who met at CERN (the European Organization for Nuclear Research) decided to build a better internet. They saw the internet, once a beacon for freedom, rapidly turning into a tool for surveillance and oppression. In response, they began working on a suite of encrypted products, beginning with ProtonMail, that give people control of their online data.

Born out of a record-breaking crowdfunding campaign, Proton has always been for the people and by the people. Its first and only commitment has always been to the Proton community, not advertisers or other third parties. Join Proton to work on creating an internet that serves everyone.
