The ESG CSRD Programme is a multi-year programme within Finance Change Delivery (FCD) to deliver the Global Finance Strategic Solution for ESG CSRD obligations (and internal monitoring and reporting capability) for the bank. As a key member of the Finance CSRD team, this role will be driving execution and implementation of CSRD regulations and participate actively in enabling activities such as Double Materiality Assessment; coordinating with key stakeholders to drive the disclosure and data requirements; and work closely with Global & HBCE ESG finance and finance change teams to help drive the tactical and future state target operating model.

This role is a unique opportunity to work in an area of growing interest to regulators, investors, and the wider external market.

The role will entity wise, report into the HBCE ESG Finance Change Lead who is accountable to HBCE Head of Finance ESG for the successful delivery of HBCE ESG requirements - ESG disclosures as well as CSRD.

The role will also functionally report into the ESG CSRD Programme Director to steer through delivery as a priority of HBCE & Malta and then progressively extend scope to Global.

What you're going to do:

• The Senior Project Manager role will focus initially on implementation for HBCE, Malta and ensuring compliance to disclosures by end of 2024. 2024 is tactical delivery and the strategic delivery follows on subsequently in 2025. The role holder will closely work with key stakeholders and delivery partners from Global Businesses and Global Functions to ensure consistent alignment and delivery of project outcomes to CSRD / ESG directives.

• He/she will work closely with the stakeholders on planning effectively around delivery constraints and optimize the plan to maximize benefits and minimize risk. Develops the plan within constraints, considering the delivery approach, key milestones and dependencies within the plan, requirements and scope, effort and resources, budgets, and quality of the deliverables.

• He/ She oversees the tracking of project deliverables, risks, issues, and dependencies on day-to-day basis. Proactively assesses the impact on the benefit realization for the project and takes action to minimize impact, actively challenging and removing obstacles.

• He/ She can engage independently and collaborate with senior regional and country stakeholders across Finance and business function as required. Engages proactively with project sponsors and/or represent CSRD on regional/ country Steering Committees and other governance.

• Provides timely reports on project status, risks and issues, evaluating project performance based on management information.

• The expectation is to work closely with ESG change, RTB and wider finance change teams to help drive the future Global Finance ESG operating model and processes to align with the Finance TOM.

• Ensure business and user requirements along with the enhancement related to ESG Finance standards are well represented and collated.

• Recommend and drive continuous improvement to system and process - Work in partnership with the business areas to drive new and improved process design, provide management review for testing and documentation.

• Obtains sponsor and stakeholder sign-off for deliverables, formally closes project, assesses stakeholder satisfaction, and captures feedback. Captures key learns from each project and feeds back into Global Change Delivery methodologies and best practices.

Major Challenges:

• Prioritization Decisions - Balancing strategic Finance Change Delivery objectives with large amount of new, volatile regulatory requirements in a cost-constrained environment. Managing potentially conflicting agendas, priorities and timelines across functions (inside and outside Finance) as well as across geographic and regulatory jurisdictions

• SME Knowledge - the role requires detailed knowledge of the ESG regulations and reporting requirements. He/she must have a good understanding of approaches, tools and techniques for gathering, clarifying and managing complex change projects.

• Industry knowledge - The role holder must demonstrate robust business knowledge and stay abreast of developments in the industry, the functional area and other relevant areas such as technology, data and methodology.

• Stakeholder complexity - The role holder must manage multiple stakeholders across organization boundaries to ensure project plans are developed and executed, requirements are gathered, and designs agreed, dealing with different interests, and resolving conflicts. Poor requirements and design decisions must also be challenged.

• The role has been created to contribute to the delivery of ESG Finance Change Delivery initiatives and to ensure change delivery in a globally consistent, coherent, and effective manner

• The role holder will develop and execute tasks that will provide the business with effective solutions that consider Group strategy and the challenges or risks that the Group faces

• The role holder is expected to operate at an SME level and engage a wide spectrum of stakeholders across the bank. A key element of this role is to engage with and manage senior relationships in Finance, Risk, IT and the business.

• The role holder will work effectively across multiple initiatives simultaneously

• The role holder will work with a large cross-functional teams that delivers complex transformational and important regulatory change.

• The role will be required co-ordination of teams/activities across multiple entities and/or regions.

• The role holder must have a good understanding of change framework and project management methodologies, tools, and techniques for gathering, clarifying and managing complex change projects.

• The job holder should be experienced in operating through all stages of the project lifecycle from initiation to closure.

Conditions

Essential:

• Experience of managing large-scale change programmes, preferably in a large international financial institution.

• Ability to develop effective working relationships with stakeholders of different seniority and geographical location.

• Exceptional drive, motivation and commitment and focus on operational excellence.

• Recognised project management capabilities with a track record of successfully designing and delivering change projects.

• Strong attention to detail and being solution oriented.

• Experience of working in a virtual team within colleagues in multiple locations.

• Planning and Plan Management, Global Mind Set, Resource and Team management.

• Strong communication skills and an ability to communicate complex ideas in a simple manner to a global audience.

Advantageous:

• Significant experience in the delivery of change within the finance function, including in-depth knowledge of the existing processes and solutions in place for regulatory reporting

• Good understanding and knowledge of ESG regulations and requirements

• Understanding of Change framework, Agile methodologies, and best practice techniques

• Risk Management Experience

• Understanding of financial reporting system is preferred

• Understanding of HSBC Group structures, values, behaviours, processes, and objectives
