ABOUT THE PEOPLE TEAM

As a HR & Payroll Operations Apprentice, you will be part of our dynamic and collaborative People team — a team in motion, focused on building and delivering impactful projects. Currently made up of a dozen dedicated professionals, they are committed to driving the company's success, passionate about fostering diversity, and constantly eager to learn and grow.
You will report to the HR & Payroll Ops Lead.

YOUR MISSION : Contribute to ensuring that Descartes employees have a smooth experience

Manage HR Operations for some key processes of the employee lifecycle

  • Support Onboarding Ops: produce work contracts for newjoiners, watch trial period end dates so that HRBPs can have the right conversations with managers;
  • Support absences Ops for employees (sick leave, time off …);
  • Assist with the administrative management of offboardings;
  • Keep our HR database and staff register up to date.
  • Contribute to monthly Payroll & Benefits Operations, together with senior HR team members

  • Contribute to monthly payroll management, working with payroll providers in France and abroad;
  • Contribute to ensuring that social taxes are properly calculated, controlled and paid, in relation with Finance;
  • Contribute to track employees’ benefit allowances (e.g. transportation, meal plan).
  • Contribute to continuously improving our HR processes

  • Contribute to continuously improving our HR processes by simplifying when possible, automating where feasible and ensuring reliability in everything we do thanks to no-code tools (Make), Excel automations, or simply common sense;
  • Support the implementation of effective communication strategies related to payroll and HR operations, including process documentation or responding to employees’ frequently asked questions (e.g. on timeoff, sick leave, payroll …).

  • your strong interest in labor law and payroll issues
  • your ability to work in a true international context, with different cultures, but also different regulations and law
  • You have experience in an HR department, with ideally a focus in HR Operations (“administration du personnel”) and/or Payroll;
  • You are at ease, either in a fast-paced, high-growth environment where agility was critical;
  • You are fluent in French and English (oral and written);
  • You recognize yourself in values like: excellence, diversity, humility and eagerness to learn.
