Our backend systems are at the core of everything we do — from order orchestration across multiple delivery platforms, to powering internal tools, data pipelines, and real-time decision-making systems.
As we scale, we’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to strengthen our backend team and help us build robust, scalable, and intelligent systems.
You’ll play a key role in shaping the architecture, enabling product velocity, and integrating AI-powered capabilities into our platform.
Taster’s proprietary tech stack is the backbone of a composed architecture of home made application and External Software as a service. Our products range from multi-platform order ingestion to Click & Collect, internal tooling, and invoicing capabilities.
As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will:
Own complex backend features end-to-end, from design to deployment and iteration
Collaborate closely with product managers, frontend engineers, and operations teams
Design and build scalable APIs and services powering customer-facing and internal tools
Ensure reliability and performance of critical systems (ordering, payments, operations)
Design robust, scalable architectures on Google Cloud Platform
Improve system reliability, observability, and performance
Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code
Lead technical discussions and contribute to architecture decisions and best practices
Continuously improve CI/CD, monitoring, and system resilience
Evaluate when to leverage LLMs vs traditional coding approaches depending on reliability, performance, cost, and maintainability
At Taster, we use tools like Claude Code, Cursor, or similar AI-assisted environments to accelerate development when relevant
Make pragmatic decisions on build vs prompt vs hybrid architectures
Contribute to defining best practices around AI-assisted engineering within the team
Mentor other engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and knowledge sharing
Raise the bar on backend quality, performance, and scalability
Take ownership of technical topics and drive improvements across the backend stack
Contribute to a culture of autonomy, ownership, and continuous improvement

5+ years of experience in backend development
Strong experience with Python (FastAPI or similar frameworks)
Experience designing scalable distributed systems
Solid experience with GCP (or similar cloud platforms)
Strong understanding of APIs, databases, and asynchronous systems
Experience with monitoring, performance optimization, and system reliability
Familiarity with event-driven architectures is a plus
Experience coding with LLM-assisted tools (e.g. Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot)
Interest in integrating AI into backend systems and workflows
Ability to leverage AI tools to improve productivity and system capabilities
Autonomy & Ownership: Able to drive projects independently end-to-end
