From dedicated servers to virtual and bare metal cloud servers, storage solutions and many other products, the Hardware Department is at the heart of the Scaleway infrastructure, offering over 100,000 servers from our own data centers to our customers and internal teams.
The Hardware Department is responsible for most of the hardware activities of the company; from qualification to prototyping, tool development to hardware support, and rack level design.

The Hardware Dev team is responsible for developing the in-house tools that will be used during the qualification phases, for quality checks, and for pre-production configuration and setup activities.
The team’s mission is to develop best-in-class tools in order to automate deployments, to improve overall quality and time to market, and to optimize the cost-effectiveness of hardware assets.

Your mission

As a DevOps Engineer, you will be tasked with enhancing the current stack as well as developing new tools. Your creativity will be used for our main goal: improving the way hardware is deployed. DevOps Engineers are also responsible for maintaining the infrastructure hosting tools.
Product teams are your main customers, therefore constant communication is crucial in order to provide the most effective solution for their needs.

Your daily tasks

As part of the Hardware Dev team, the DevOps Engineer will:

• Design, create, maintain and improve the qualification, quality check/test/compliance tools
• Manage the respective projects
• Create and maintain documentation for the associated tools and procedures
• Automate maintenance activities & internal tools
• Review code contributed by the rest of the team and work with them to get it ready for production
• Interact with the numerous teams involved: product teams, datacenter, production and deployment coordinators amongst others,
• Interact with OEM/ODM on hardware qualification and modifications,
• Manage the RUN activity for tools,
• Propose recommendations and new solutions from the technological watch we maintain.

About you

• You are passionate about cloud computing, hosting, hardware or data centers

• Strong experience working with Python

• Good knowledge of computer hardware (servers & servers parts, network equipment)

• Good understanding of Linux administration and internals

• Good understanding of server administration (including firmware, UEFI, BMC, PXE, etc.)

• Self-motivated with strong organizational skills

• Network skills

• IPMI/Firmware/HW components knowledge

• Good spoken and written English

• Team worker, thorough, fast learner
