About Generare
Generare is a Paris-based biotech startup exploring the 97% of microbial natural products that remain undiscovered. We combine synthetic biology, computational biology, and automation to build a rapidly growing library of novel bioactive molecules for applications in drug discovery, crop protection, and beyond.
Founded in 2023 from the work of Dr. Vincent Libis, we are a team of 20 people backed by leading investors. We are scaling fast and building the team that will bring nature’s molecular library to the next wave of medicines and sustainable agriculture.
Role Overview
Soil is the fuel of our discovery engine. Everything starts with soil samples containing microbial strains that may encode the next generation of drugs or bioactive products.
As a Biodiversity Sourcing Intern, you will structure and scale our soil sample collection across France and Europe. You will recruit and coordinate a network of field samplers, analyze sourcing data to identify high-value collection sites, and build relationships with partners (academic collections, research institutes, local networks). This is a hands-on operational role with direct impact on what enters our discovery pipeline.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, execute, and track soil sourcing campaigns across France and progressively in Europe
Recruit, onboard, and coordinate a network of freelance field samplers
Analyze sourcing data to identify high-value soils and prioritize future collection sites
Identify and engage sourcing partners: academic collections, private strain libraries, biodiversity networks
Handle administrative steps and permits for international sourcing (Nagoya Protocol compliance)
Contribute to sample traceability so we can link strains and molecules back to their geographic origin
Education: Master student in biology, ecology, microbiology, agronomy, environmental sciences, or related field
Field appetite: Enjoys practical coordination, real-world logistics, and operational problem-solving
Organization: Structured, reliable, detail-oriented in tracking and follow-up
Languages: Fluent French and English
Tools: Comfortable with spreadsheets, structured data, and basic reporting
Bonus: Prior experience in field sampling, biodiversity surveys, or strain collection
