We are seeking a mechanical engineer intern to join our multidisciplinary R&D team. In this role, you will be an integrated from conceptual mechanical designs toward production, by considering reliability and manufacturability at every stage of development of our medical robotic solution for assisting surgeons in the operating room. Knowledge in medical device compliance would be a plus.
As part of the hardware team, you will work closely with the other departments (system, product, software, roboticists, clinical experts and regulatory specialists) to provide high-quality set-ups (prototypes, benchs, poc at different levels of maturity) while ensuring good performances and requirements adequacy.
You will be evolving in a stimulating start-up environment, while working on a meaningful medical robotic field and taking responsibilities on an agility framework.
Mechanical Design & Development
- Detailed CAD Solidworks and technical drawings following iso
- Choice of proper materials and surface treatments to ensure long-term device performance and durability (metallic, plastic, composite).
- Choice of the appropriate production process while considering design for manufacturing and design to costs
- Rigorous and documented rationales and calculation notes to justify dimensioning of the elements (bearings, screws, structural integrity)
- Knowing and applying design guidelines for modularity and standardization to simplify assembly steps
- Collaborate with electrical engineers to integrate electronic and electrical systems, including cabling
- Participate in design thinking workshops and ideation
- Provide rigorous technical specifications: 3D, 2D, Work instructions, bill of material
Assembly and tests
- Mounting of the prototypes and benches with our hardware technician in the fablab. Some tools or parts will need to be prototyped/3D printed. Suggest improvements and provide feedback on mounting steps to better the design.
- Apply and enrich V&V assembly rules
- Conduct integration tests to ensure functionality and performance before release.
- Conduct maintenance to maximize time of use of the set-ups and permit all the tests to be run. Enrich defect follow-ups and diagnosis to better the designs
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including software[BB1] [FB2] , electronics, quality assurance and regulatory affairs, to understand what could go wrong and propose enhancements.
- Oversee the transition from design to manufacturing, ensuring that prototypes meet design specifications and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in design reviews, failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), and risk management activities.
We are looking for a passionate student currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering, with experience or a strong motivation in mechanical design and structural integrity (computational modeling, reliability dimensioning). The ideal candidate will have excellent problem-solving skills and a keen ability to ensure system reliability.
