At Touton, the Senior Quality Controller shall be responsible for consistency in quality of coffee products through the understanding and management of quality control processes to ensure that all coffees received and exported are analyzed with a professional conduct. This role involves collaborating with various departments, including procurement, production, Export, Logistics and Trade to maintain and improve the overall quality standards of the company’s and client specifications.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Responsible for taking the lead on all the bulking required for the different grades as instructed by the Export manager.

• Issuing Bulking reports after each session.

• Responsible for collecting all pre and 100% samples of Customer and unit deliveries as and when instructed by supervisor and reporting Nonconformities.

• Obtain production coffee samples during and after processing of each batch/lot as and according to the production schedule.

• Monitoring coffee quality trends at various stages of processing and report any non-conformities to supervisors.

• Present all reference coffee samples to the immediate supervisor for verification and validation prior to analysis, cupping, and storage in the sample room.

• Collecting key data to track the quality trends in production.

• Prepare samples prior to UCDA Inspections

• Liaise with the inspectors to ensure smooth Export operations

• Obtain reference samples of all export coffees at the point of loading

• Participate in cupping sessions to evaluate the sensory attributes of coffee samples.

• Develop and maintain a comprehensive flavor profile library for all coffee products.

• Provide detailed feedback to the production team to address flavor inconsistencies and maintain product quality.

• The Employee will further be involved in the regional coffee operations and professional Quality requirements, and this will require travels to the different units as and when needed.

• Keep an up-to-date register of all quality documents and reports.

• Keep the sample room tidy, neat, and well arranged for easy access and retrieval of reference coffee samples

• Any other reasonable duty as may be assigned by supervisors that is consistent with the nature of the job and its level of responsibility

• You are always required to wear the personal protective equipment (if provided) both in the processing plant and the laboratory.

• He/she will perform any other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

• Bachelor’s degree and /or Diploma in Food Science, Agriculture or any related field from a recognized University.

• UCDA certification/License in Basic Quality Control is an added advantage

• Minimum of 3 years experience in the coffee sector

• Good written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to analyze, interpret and perform accurate calculations with a good attention to detail, comprehensive understanding of key processes within quality and production.

• Strong analytical skills with the ability to communicate and interpret sensory data effectively and a positive attitude and ability to work under pressure.

• Teamwork and collaboration, comfortable standing or walking for long periods of time.

• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office packages such as MS Word, Excel & Outlook.
