This role is responsible for implementing the facility’s reliability and maintenance strategies for electrical and instrumentation equipment. This includes both plant technical support and the execution of projects, to enable the plant to meet its market, productivity, and/or quality goals. They will assist management with pre-studies of deployment and development projects in the electrical discipline. They will also execute design studies, follow procurement and fabrication of equipment, and manage the installation, commissioning, and startup of the equipment in an industrial plant environment. He or she will report to Reliability Manager.
1. Focus on the reliability of the plant’s instrumentation and electrical equipment by improving procedures, optimizing maintenance strategies, overseeing Predictive Maintenance practices, and optimizing Preventative Maintenance tasks.
2. Manage the electrical portion of plant shutdowns including identification of work to be performed, planning, scheduling, securing resources, and coordination of work during the shutdown.
3. Perform and maintain Criticality Analysis and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis for all electrical infrastructure equipment including backup power equipment (transformers, protective devices, substations, generators, uninterrupted power supplies).
4. Manage Predictive Maintenance programs for facility electrical equipment (online and offline Motor Circuit Analysis and Infrared Thermography).
5. Manage Preventative maintenance program for electrical equipment and infrastructure (including lightning protection system and the bonding and grounding through the facility)
6. Identify and correct costly equipment problems through Root Cause Analysis on any electrical or instrumentation failures that result in lost production or high maintenance costs.
7. Identify and develop plan for part obsolescence among electrical and instrumentation equipment.
8. Provide technical support (and troubleshooting assistance) to maintenance/plant personnel and support the coaching/development/training of electrical shift troubleshooters to improve troubleshooting competencies.
9. Provide electrical design engineering for assigned projects while applying Company design standards. Project tasks include:
▪ Create Budgetary Estimates and Bid Packages on assigned projects.
▪ Create project documentation: schematics, technical offer, safety risk assessment, maintenance & operator training documents and user manuals.
▪ Interface with Plant production & maintenance customers, other engineers, and suppliers.
▪ Facilitate the order of equipment and materials for assigned projects.
▪ Provide Management of Electrical contractor or maintenance installation teams during equipment modifications & machine installations through Start-up and Commissioning.
Example Projects:
• Add “windows” to electrical gear to allow infrared thermography inspection
• Feasibility study to add fire suppression to the medium voltage switch gear
• Based on root cause analysis develop solution to prevent recurrent failures of critical motors
• Design and implement grounding system for equipment which does not meet site requirements (identified by testing)
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent 15 years of related technical experience
A minimum at least 5 years of Electrical Engineering experience in an industrial manufacturing environment
Experienced with electrical design standards and able to complete electrical design using standard CAD design tools
Knowledge and understanding of Predictive Maintenance technologies (Motor Circuit Analysis and Infrared Thermography)
Knowledge of electrical maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting techniques
Understanding of planning, scheduling, reliability principles and experience with CMMS required (use of MS Project is a plus).
Understanding of NFPA; National Electric code; IEEE.
Experience with troubleshooting, maintenance, and installation Low/Medium/High Voltage electrical power distribution (substations, transformers, circuit breakers) equipment is required. Certification by AVO or equivalent is preferred.
Experience with installation and troubleshooting of Rockwell/Allen Bradley PLCs and VFDs is required.
Experience with instrumentation (flowmeters, pressure transmitters, level transmitters, control valves) is preferred
