Within the Project Development Team, the candidate’s main mission will be to lead carbon expertise within and perform carbon assessment of projects in which the company invests.
Projects assessed include nature-based solutions and high-impact community projects (mangrove restoration, reforestation, improved cookstoves, access to clean water, etc.), certified under leading carbon standards (VCS, Gold Standard, etc.).
The candidate will report directly to the Carbon Projects Director and will have the following main responsibilities:
Carbon projects assessment and technical feasibility:
Perform technical analysis of projects and carbon feasibility studies
Perform robust carbon forecasts and carbon risk assessment of the projects
Conduct site visits and travel to project locations to perform on-field due diligences
Presentation of projects carbon potential and risks during investment committee meetings
Review key deliverables of the projects under certification process (Project Design Documents, Monitoring Reports, etc.)
Supervise external reviews with a network of specialized carbon consultants (third party reviews)
Lead carbon expertise and capacity building:
Serve as the primary point of contact for the team for carbon technical questions in terms of quantification of the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and eligibility of different project activities (mainly NBS), according to the methodologies approved by carbon certification standards (e.g. VM0047, VM0042, VM0033, VM0050, etc.)
Technical support to project teams through training and development of tools for project carbon assessment (checklist, calculation sheets, others)
Sectoral watch: follow evolutions of certification standards and methodological changes
Understand and manage points of views from different actors (business, technical, academic, investors, public, etc..) to propose smart, practical action plans that create an alignment of all stakeholders.
Represent occasionally Removall in external working groups, attend conferences and reinforce the company’s position as a leader helping to shape and develop the voluntary carbon markets.
Reporting:
Reports to the Carbon Projects Director.
Periodic presentations to the executive committee during internal committees.
You are passionate about climate issues and developing high-impact projects in emerging or developing countries, results-oriented, and able to solve complex challenges related to carbon project development.
To excel in this position, you will need significant experience in carbon projects development and carbon calculations, with a demonstrated ability to analyse large amounts of information and provide succinct and relevant recommendations.
You are rigorous, organized, and comfortable working in an international and multicultural environment.
Education:
· Academic background in environmental sciences (agriculture, forestry, etc.), sustainability, environmental management, energy or any other relevant field of study.
Required Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of professional experience
Significant experience in carbon project development and carbon projects calculations.
Expected Skills:
Good knowledge in carbon certification and/or a broad range of emission reduction projects (such as renewable energy, cookstoves, biodigesters,etc) and NBS project types (including ARR, ALM, blue carbon, REDD+ and others).
Deep knowledge of carbon certification schemes and methodologies (VCS or Gold Standard).
Excellent organizational skills: ability to prioritize, manage pressure, track the progress of multiple tasks simultaneously, and be ready to reorganize priorities in response to new information.
A strong network of contacts in key sectors, initiatives, alliances, and NGOs
Skills in statistics, database management, GIS, and remote sensing are highly appreciated.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to adapt to various stakeholders.
Fluency in both French and English is required; an additional foreign language is a plus.
Ability to work autonomously.
Location and Mobility:
Position based in Paris, with remote work.
Field visits depending on the needs.
