Why do we need a Senior Game Designer (Boss) ?
We are looking for a Senior Game Designer to lead the creation of high-quality, modern action-combat bosses from concept to final polish. You will own boss encounters end-to-end: defining mechanics, implementing attacks and behaviors directly in Unreal Engine 5, driving iteration, and ensuring encounters meet the project’s gameplay, technical, and quality benchmarks.
This role requires strong hands-on implementation skills, clear design thinking, and the ability to collaborate and lead within a cross-disciplinary environment.
Own and drive boss encounters from early concept through final implementation, tuning, and polish.
Design and implement boss mechanics, attacks, behaviors, and phases directly in Unreal Engine 5.
Produce and maintain high-quality high-level and low-level design documentation for bosses and related systems.
Act as a design owner for assigned bosses, ensuring consistency, clarity, and alignment with the project’s combat vision.
Collaborate closely with programmers, animators, artists, VFX/SFX, and production to ensure designs are feasible, performant, and well-integrated.
Lead iteration cycles based on playtests, internal reviews, and leadership feedback.
Identify design risks early and proactively propose solutions.
Support and elevate overall boss design quality through reviews, feedback, and shared best practices.
Work within a boss-focused game design group, contributing to a cohesive and consistent boss lineup.
Collaborate with cross-disciplinary feature teams including gameplay programmers, animators, artists, and technical designers.
Serve as a senior point of contact for boss-related design topics within your feature team.
Clearly communicate design intent, constraints, and priorities to all collaborators.
Review work across disciplines to ensure bosses meet gameplay, readability, and quality goals.
Work closely with senior game design leadership to align on vision, direction, and standards.
Mentor or support less experienced designers when appropriate.
Documentation: Own and maintain clear, structured, production-ready documentation that supports implementation, iteration, and long-term maintainability.
Implementation: Hands-on implementation in Unreal Engine 5, including boss attacks, AI behaviors, state logic, tuning, and balancing.
Communication & review: Drive collaboration across disciplines, lead reviews, and ensure alignment from concept to shipped-quality content.
Boss designs that are mechanically deep, readable, and memorable.
High-quality, complete boss encounters with polished attacks and behaviors.
Clear, reliable documentation that enables efficient production.
Strong cross-team collaboration with minimal friction.
Consistent delivery of stable, fun, and engaging boss gameplay.
