The Head of Engineering / Director of Engineering will provide strategic leadership and direction for the engineering division of the company. This executive role demands a seasoned engineering professional with a deep understanding of aerospace technologies, exceptional leadership skills, and a proven track record in managing large-scale engineering projects. The Director will oversee all engineering functions, ensuring the successful development, integration, and delivery of aviation products that meet or exceed industry standards and customer expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and implement the engineering strategy aligned with the overall business objectives of the aviation program.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement within the engineering division.
  • Establish long-term goals and objectives for the engineering team, ensuring alignment with company vision and market demands.

2. Technical Oversight:

  • Provide expert guidance and direction on technical matters, ensuring robust engineering practices.
  • Oversee the development of engineering solutions that meet program requirements and regulatory standards.
  • Ensure effective system integration across all subsystems, maintaining performance and safety standards.

3. Project and Program Management:

  • Collaborate with program managers to define project scopes, budgets, and timelines.
  • Monitor project progress, manage risks, and implement corrective actions to ensure project milestones are achieved.
  • Ensure engineering projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

4. Team Leadership and Development:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing engineering team.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative engineering culture.
  • Ensure the team has the necessary skills, tools, and resources to succeed.

5. Quality and Compliance:

  • Implement and maintain rigorous quality assurance processes.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant industry regulations, standards, and certifications.
  • Lead safety assessments and implement mitigation strategies to ensure product safety and reliability.

6. Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Act as the primary engineering liaison with customers, regulatory bodies, and other external stakeholders.
  • Present technical information and program status updates to senior management, customers, and stakeholders.
  • Address and resolve engineering-related issues raised by stakeholders.

7. Resource Management:

  • Manage the engineering budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources.
  • Oversee the procurement of tools, software, and other engineering resources.
  • Optimize the use of engineering resources to maximize productivity and cost-effectiveness.

 

Work Environment:

  • Primarily office-based with frequent visits to manufacturing sites, test facilities, and customer locations.
  • May require occasional travel for meetings, reviews, and presentations.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance if required.

Profil recherché

 

  • Education:
    • Master’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 15 years of experience in aerospace engineering, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
    • Proven experience managing large, complex engineering projects or programs.
    • Extensive knowledge of aviation systems, including aerodynamics, propulsion, avionics, and structures.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong understanding of engineering principles and practices.
    • Proficiency in engineering design tools and project management software.
    • In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards (FAA, EASA, etc.).
  • Leadership and Management Skills:
    • Exceptional leadership and team-building capabilities.
    • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent project management and organizational skills.
  • Communication Skills:
    • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to effectively present technical information to a diverse audience.
    • Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with team members, stakeholders, and customers.
