AXA Health International is a new structure within the Health Division of AXA which will put together all the teams involved in cross-border health and protection insurance and reinsurance. One of these teams, is currently sitting within the AXA Life & Health International Solutions (ALHIS) department of AXA France. This department looks after a portfolio made up of large corporate clients (typically CAC40 companies), governmental (foreign affairs ministries, embassies) and international non-governmental and inter-governmental organisations all looking to purchase international health and protection coverage for their worldwide staff. The Head of Underwriting is responsible for meeting the profitability targets on this portfolio.

This role will also be heavily involved in managing a successful transition of the underwriting team, its processes and systems from ALHIS to AXA Health International in the second half of 2025 to early 2026.

Key accountabilities :

• Lead a team of 8 commercial underwriters dedicated to Cross-border Health & Protection risks within the Large Corporate (global expatriates) and International Organisations (diplomats and employees of IGO/NGOs) segments, (re)insured by AHI in partnership with MGAs.
• Responsible for ensuring NB and profitability targets are met, for a portfolio of around EUR400mil
• Ensure that health and protection insurance risks are assessed against AHI’s risk appetite, at new business and renewal stage
• Work effectively with colleagues across AXA Health International, notably the Partnerships & Reinsurance Market Function, which will require occasional participation in presentations to clients
• Work effectively with the Proposition Contracts team to ensure that the client accounts and profit share statements are issued on a timely basis
• As part of the senior leadership of AHI’s Underwriting & Proposition Global Function, contribute to the overall technical excellence agenda of AHI

Technical Skills & Competencies

• 10+ years experience in a similar underwriting role, with an underwriting authority of at least EUR3mil
• Experience in the IPMI large corporate segment, as well as the IGO/NGO/MOFA segment
• Technical expertise with both health and protection risks
• Ideally exposure to both direct and reinsurance
• Good team player
• Experience managing a team
• Outstanding analytical and structuring capabilities for strategic decision-making and project execution.
• Strong time management and ability to self-organize, particularly in ambiguous and complex situations.
• Excellent English and French is a must
