Our Team

Science is at the heart of our Business Value Proposal!

In the Science team we model risks from various types of hazards (extreme and chronic) and various type of assets (infrastructures, real estate, industrial clients, agro industry, supply chain). We harness our inhouse scientific expertise to:

  1. Share state of the art knowledge on climate and natural risks within the team and with customers.

  2. Model the probability of occurrence of extreme climate hazards and provide analysis.

  3. Quantify assets vulnerabilities to various hazards, relying on internal and external sources of information.

  4. Maintaining the most advanced methods and data for value at risk assessments and cost-benefit analysis of adaptation measures.

Results so far:

  • We work with over 20 research centers worldwide on state of the art modeling techniques and data

  • We develop our own climate risk indicators based on the best available research

  • We have a great team of experts on climate change and variability, hydrology and hydraulics, geology and agronomy and specific fields like health, renewable energy, and nature.

Your role as Climate Risk Expert

The modelling work carried out by the science team encompasses all steps from climate science R&D, mathematical modelling and data science, to the quantification of impacts for portfolios of assets subject to climate risk.

Main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Develop probabilistic modeling of extreme climate hazards

  • Vulnerability and risk assessment of various types of assets

  • Valuation of climate risk including the quantification of climate change impacts and benefits of adaptation measures

  • Build and maintain a network of scientific experts and lead R&D

  • Develop internal and customer-driven trainings on climate-related hazards and risks

This role will work hand-in-hand with the Lead Climatologist at AXA Climate to help in boosting science as a strong differentiating factor for our business.

Preferred experience

Experience: 2+ years of experience in cat and non-cat risk modeling. Experience with climate change models is a plus.
Qualification: PhD or equivalent in the field of climate science or meteorology
Deep climate expertise: Strong climate convictions and knowledges
Performance Driven: Capacity to focus on impact and objectives
Agile: Organization and adaptability to assimilate the strategies of each business lines
Proactive: Capacity to solve problems on one’s own, be synthethic and impactful
Highly collaborative: Openness and relational ease
Fluent in English and French
You have the following hard skills:
- Ability to adapt laguage from science to business
- Time Management skills: Capacity to plan, coordinate and deliver on schedule, using structured methodologies
- Probabilistic risk modeling applied to (re) insurance
- Knowledge of climate change and climate models
- Ability to work with multiple sources of data and at multiple scale of risk (from portfolio to local)


Recruitment process

The process entails a first call to get to know each other. Then 3 to 4 interviews are organised wintin a couple of days to assess hard and soft skills that are in line with the position. You will usually recieve a final answer within 2 weeks.
