About the team:

A strategic engineering leader responsible for the end-to-end success of the Payments domain at Turo, overseeing all critical flows from guest pay-ins to host payouts. Proven track record of delivering high-impact, company-wide initiatives through effective cross-functional collaboration with Product, Accounting, Finance, Legal, and Tax teams. Drives operational excellence, ensures compliance, and enables scalable, resilient payment infrastructure to support Turo’s global growth.

What you will do:

  • Effectively prioritizes work across teams to maximize impact on Turo’s success.

  • May own budgeting for their teams. 

  • Influences teams across Turo to achieve domain goals and broader company goals within their organization.

  • Works with engineering leads to set policies and processes that span Engineering.

  • Recognizes, influences, and resolves critical issues that may affect the company’s direction.

  • Designs their organization to maximize impact and respond to the changing needs of the business. 

  • Builds autonomous teams that can function without high levels of oversight. 

  • Works across the organization to resolve technical blockers, help in minimizing friction and maximizing productivity.

  • Works with senior leadership and the internal executive team to align the engineering team’s vision, mission, and strategy with the company. 

  • Leads the organization to success with little guidance or direction from senior leadership and the executive team. 

  • Actively contributes to broad business strategies, decisions, and processes.

  • Collaborates with other directors and team managers to influence meeting broader company goals. Serves as coach and mentor to individual contributors and people managers across all of engineering.

Your profile:

  • Experience with architectural patterns and anti-patterns of large, high-scale consumer applications.

  • Demonstrated experience taking bias toward taking action, using the best available data to justify your actions and opinions, and making decisions that move the business forward.

  • Can effectively hire, mentor, and develop career plans for engineers of all levels.

  • Leads by example, holding to the same standards set for the team.

  • Strong communicator: shares knowledge upward, downward, and across the organization.

  • Has a proven understanding of business metrics and is able to suggest and scope product feature work to maximize the business impact.

  • Ability to solve complex problems and help others meet their goals.

  • Can effectively explain complex technical concepts to Product, Accounting, Legal, Tax, and engineers.

  • Can lead and function effectively in the face of uncertainty and ambiguity.

  • Demonstrates Turo’s values through work product and within day to day team interactions. 

Education and Experience:

  • 5+ years of management experience

  • 15+ years of engineering experience

The SF base salary target range for this full-time position is $240,000-$300,000 + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position in San Francisco, CA. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Turo highly values having employees working in-office to foster a collaborative work environment and company culture. This role will be in-office on a hybrid schedule — Turists will be expected to work in the office 3 days per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Turo considers working in the office at least 3 days per week to be an essential function of this hybrid role.
