Headquartered in Sydney, SEDA brings local expertise in the integration of optronics and navigation systems for the air, land, and naval platforms of the Australian and New Zealand Defence Forces.

As an Image Processing Engineer, you will work at the intersection of image processing, computer vision, and sensor fusion designing algorithms that enable automatic target recognition (ATR), including detection, classification, and tracking. This role will interface with internal R&D, systems engineering, and external partners.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

Design, develop, and validate high-level image processing algorithms for Electro Optical systems.
Implement capabilities such as:
Object detection and classification
Single and multi-object tracking
Model, simulate, and test algorithms using MATLAB and Python.
Optimise low-level image enhancement techniques, including:
Histogram equalisation, deconvolution, denoising
Contrast enhancement, sharpening, spatial filtering
Collaborate with systems engineers and optronics experts to integrate solutions.
Engage with internal and external stakeholders (e.g., international R&D teams, universities, industry partners).
Contribute to technical documentation, performance evaluation, and validation plans.

To be successful in this role you must have:

Bachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering, Computer Vision, Signal Processing, Physics, or related field.
5+ years' experience in image/signal processing, ideally in defence, aerospace, or research.
Strong foundation in signal and image processing.
Proficient in MATLAB and Python.
Experience with:
EO/IR image detection and classification
Object tracking and motion prediction
Image registration, filtering, and enhancement
Familiarity with EO/IR sensors, gimbals, or UAV payloads.
Experience deploying algorithms on embedded or GPU platforms.
Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Desirable:

Experience with AI/ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch).
Understanding of embedded or real-time implementation constraints.
Experience managing R&D collaborations with academic or industrial partners.
