Descriptif du poste

As an R&D Engineer Software & Hardware, you’ll join our Tech Team based in Bordeaux, working closely with Victor, our Head of Software.

Inside pony’s Tech team, you’ll find a small group of five developers working with high agility. We deploy to production daily and release new app builds every week. We manage a wide range of applications, six in total, all built on very solid foundations.

Every developer works on high-impact projects, tackling exciting technical challenges: improving performance, optimising request loads, and laying the groundwork for tomorrow’s more complex features. We’re building for scale, preparing to absorb 10x more users and trips in the coming months.

Your role will be central to the evolution of our connected vehicles, especially the Double Pony, contributing across software development and embedded systems integration.

To give you more context, here are a few challenges the team is currently tackling:

  • Reducing bike unlock time by optimising digital electronics, network communication, and state machine logic

  • Enhancing real-time fleet tracking by improving the handling of analog/digital electronics and CAN communication

Profil recherché

  • Contribute to developing new features on embedded systems, at the intersection of software and hardware: Take part in the design, implementation, and integration of new functionalities to improve the performance, reliability, and user experience of our connected vehicles.

  • Participate actively in R&D efforts: Perform thorough testing and diagnostics to identify issues, analyse results, and propose both functional and technical improvements to enhance system quality and efficiency.

  • Collaborate closely with external partners (IoT manufacturers, vehicle suppliers, etc.): Work alongside third-party suppliers to gather feedback, align on technical specifications, and jointly identify areas for enhancement.

  • Work hand in hand with software and hardware teams: Maintain constant communication and coordination with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth integration, quick resolution of technical challenges, and alignment on project goals.

  • Programming skills: Strong proficiency in Python, with solid knowledge of low-level programming (C / C++)

  • Hardware & embedded systems: Solid understanding of electronic circuits and embedded communication, including CAN protocol and network communication. If you enjoy tinkering with electronics on weekends, that’s a strong plus

  • Problem-solving mindset: Ability to analyse, break down, and solve complex technical problems with method and rigour

  • Autonomy & adaptability: Comfortable working independently, adapting quickly to changing priorities, and keeping things moving in a dynamic environment

  • Cross-functional collaboration: Comfortable working across disciplines, and excited by the idea of turning technical constraints into product opportunities
