We are seeking a motivated Research Lab Intern to support our lab operations team. The internship will involve working on the isolation of bacteriophages from environmental samples, followed by the characterization of their biological and genetic properties. This research contributes to our broader goal of understanding bacteriophage diversity, host specificity, and potential therapeutic applications. This internship is ideal for students looking to gain practical lab experience in phage research and contribute to an active scientific project with real-world applications in areas like antimicrobial resistance and biotechnology.
Key Responsibilities
Collection and preparation of environmental samples (e.g., soil, water, wastewater)
Isolation, propagation and purification of phages
Determination of phage host range and lytic activity
Phage DNA extraction and sequencing
Collect, document, and analyze data, ensuring accuracy and consistency of results.
What You Will Learn:
Practical microbiological and molecular techniques
Sterile lab practices and safety protocols
Basic phage biology and genomics
Critical thinking and scientific communication skills
Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or 1st year of Master’s degree in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
Basic knowledge of microbiological methods and practices, with familiarity in aseptic techniques and handling of bacterial cultures.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Fluent English required
