Who are they?
PASQAL designs and develops quantum processors (QPUs: Quantum Processing Units) and associated software tools. Their innovative technology allows them to address use cases that are currently out of reach of the most powerful supercomputers. QPUs are highly energy efficient and will contribute to a significant reduction of the carbon footprint of the HPC industry.
Joining PASQAL will give you the opportunity to take an active part in the rapid development of a deep-tech start-up at the forefront of the second quantum revolution. You will be directly involved in one of the biggest challenges shaping the technological landscape of the 21st century. You will work in a team of top scientists and engineers, competing directly with the world’s biggest players.
Pasqal has just completed a fundraising round that will finance its developments for the next 3 years.

About PASQAL
PASQAL designs and develops quantum processing units and dedicated software tools. These innovative processors address applications that are beyond the reach of the most powerful existing supercomputers and encompass real-world challenges as well as fundamental science. Because they consume very little power, they will contribute significantly to reducing the carbon footprint of the computing industry.
PASQAL has partnerships with key users in energy, IT, finance, drug, and chemical design, automotive... The maturity and potential of our technology and the quality of our scientific team have been rewarded several times at the French, European and global levels.
Our technology is based on the considerable knowledge accumulated for decades by the Institute of Optics near Paris (IOGS / CNRS); it takes the best advantage of many recent achievements in the field of laser atom cooling, opto-electronics, vacuum, and detection systems. Based in Massy, in the heart of the quantum ecosystem south of Paris, PASQAL is funded by Quantonation, a venture capital fund focused on quantum technologies, and attracts world-class investors.
Joining PASQAL is an opportunity to contribute to the rapid development of a Deep-Tech start-up at the forefront of the second quantum revolution. You will be directly involved in one of the biggest challenges of all time, which will shape the technological landscape of the 21st century. You will work with top engineers and scientists, competing with the world's biggest players.
As an R&D Engineer at PASQAL, you will be a core member of the Cold and Vacuum Engineering (CVE) team in the Engineering and Production Department.
We are developing and building cutting edge cryostats for research laboratories and for future QPU at PASQAL. Our helium close-loop based machines reach temperatures below 4 K and offer a very low level of vibration. We always aims to improve the specifications of its machines, and for this reason we are looking for a new employee to strengthen our R&D team. This new recruit will work on internal development projects at PASQAL, as well as on the European project QIA (Quantum Internet Alliance). For this project, you will have to work in collaboration with our partner at ICFO (Barcelona) to define specifications and progress monitoring. With the help of thermal and mechanical simulations made on COMSOL, you will be in charge of developing and testing new technical solutions to reach these goals. To carry out these tasks, you will be able to rely on the experience of the CVE team at PASQAL formed of several young and dynamic PhDs.
Your key missions will include :
- Simulating thermal transfer using COMSOL (or equivalent finite element software)
- Simulating the mechanical stability of the components in the cryostat using finite element software.
- Developing and testing new solutions to improve the specifications of cryostat (thermal specifications, mechanical stability, consumption optimisation)
- Providing support to internal project
- Proposing solutions and prototyping them to solve technical challenges
- Having an inventive activity in the scientific and technical field related to the Company's research, products, technologies and markets
Requirements
You own a MSc level or an Engineering degree with a major in Experimental Physics and/or Material Science, followed by more than 5 years of professional experience (or strong PhD experience).
The successful candidate will demonstrate a keen interest in new technologies and be excited about the scientific challenges that PASQAL is facing.
We are looking for someone dynamic, organised and who likes working in a team with:
- Experience in the development and use of an experimental setup including cryogenics components.
- Strong experience in COMSOL Multiphysics (thermal transfer, mechanical deformation, electro-magnetism) or equivalent Finite Element software
- CAD skills will be a plus
English professional proficiency is mandatory to work in PASQAL's international environment
PASQAL is an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace because inclusion and diversity are essential to achieving our mission. We encourage applications from all qualified candidates regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, age, religion or sexual orientation.
