### Purpose of the role
The Area Manager holds final responsibility for the performance of his/her area within the production environment. He/she manages the shift supervisors, monitors results based on KPIs, and translates strategic objectives into concrete actions. The Area Manager takes ownership of the area and works closely with the Industrial Manager and support services to achieve continuous improvement.
### Responsibilities and tasks
#### 1. Results and performance management
- Holds P&L responsibility for the assigned area.
- Monitors and analyzes KPIs (provided by controlling) via area dashboards.
- Interprets results on a monthly and daily basis, focusing on the bigger picture (not per shift).
- Defines and prioritizes corrective actions and sets targets in consultation with the Industrial Manager.
- Promotes a sense of unity and collaboration across shifts.
#### 2. Leadership and management
- Hierarchically manages the shift supervisors (approximately 5 per area).
- Determines focus and priorities per period together with the shift supervisors.
- Ensures daily alignment with shift supervisors of the A and B shifts and weekly with night and weekend shifts.
- Supports shift supervisors with personnel-related issues and escalations.
- Acts as backup for fellow Area Managers (except for IL28, where the Industrial Manager is backup).
#### 3. Operational coordination
- Leads the 10 a.m. meeting and sets priorities and actions for the area.
- Participates in the 9 a.m. walkthrough together with the shift supervisor and lead operator.
- Maintains dialogue with production planning to ensure alignment and feasibility.
- Sets priorities in case of conflicts or trade-offs in personnel planning, in line with agreements with the Industrial Manager.
#### 4. Continuous improvement, optimization, and digitalization
- Takes ownership of optimization and improvement initiatives within the area.
- Identifies needs for improvement, investment, and digitalization.
- Challenges support services (maintenance, toolroom, process) and actively contributes to optimizations.
- Monitors and optimizes housekeeping at area level.
#### 5. Collaboration and consultation
- Works closely with:
- Shift supervisors
- Industrial Manager (reporting)
- Support services (maintenance, toolroom, process)
- Training coordinator (indirectly, via shift supervisors)
- Ensures clear division of roles:
- Area Manager sets priorities and actions
- Shift supervisors execute actions and provide feedback
### Reporting
Reports directly to the Industrial Manager.
### Required competencies and profile
- Strong leadership and coaching skills.
- Highly analytical, KPI-driven, and results-oriented.
- Problem-solving and decisive.
- Strong communication skills and team-oriented.
- Preferably a technical background (e.g., degree in Industrial Engineering) to challenge support services substantively.
- Ability to think strategically and translate this into operational actions.
