Job Description

Experienced specialist with deep knowledge in Illustrations and mining an OEM’s database to pull math data (CAD) to repurpose and create technical information. Additionally, the ability to modify existing CAD pieces for print and digital publications, specifically automotive technical information.  For this role, you will collaborate with authoring/development staff, editors and other illustrators to make sure accurate graphical representation of subject matter is clear, concise and adheres to the development specification. 

Responsibilities

• Accurately research and develop technical information illustrations using client & engineering source CAD data and supplied information.
• Ability to navigate and proficiently operate within an automotive OEM’s CAD database
• Develop, implement and follow procedures and processes.
• Manage Illustration workload and priority.
• Document open issues and follow through on resolution and inclusion.
• Prepare rough drafts according to requirements
• Combine hand-drawing and painting with digital media to create complete illustrations
• Refine designs with illustration software
• Use various colors, graphics and effects to better visualize each concept
• Format images using computer-aided design (CAD, Team Center, etc.) software
• Apply isometric techniques to add perspective to complex shapes
• Participate in design innovation/changes with authoring, clients, editors and creative services
• Ensure that illustrations meet quality standards
• Stay up-to-date with new design techniques and software

Skills Required:

• Proven work experience as an Illustrator, Graphic Designer or similar role
• Demonstrable portfolio of completed illustrations both technical and not technical in application related to automotive products and disciplines
• Hands-on experience with computer-aided design (CAD, Team Center, etc.) software
• Solid knowledge of image editing and digital sketching software, like Photoshop, In-design and Adobe Illustrator
• Drawing skills with an attention to detail (both by hand and digital pen)
• Strong aesthetic and conceptual skills
• Experienced in developing Illustrations with an automotive influence
• Excellent written and oral communications skills
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat and Photoshop or other similar software.

BA/BS or equivalent professional experience in Illustration/Graphic design with an automotive influence both technical and non-technical disciplines.  Approximately 3-5 years of related experience in development of illustrations for structured technical content.
