🚀MaiaSpace is a European space tech company, designing, manufacturing and operating competitive and sustainable solutions for space mobility. We are driven by the belief that access to space is a major enabler for a better and more sustainable life on Earth, addressing the challenges faced by humanity: climate, resources, connectivity, and data. Our aim is to successfully design and test a cost-effective and reusable mini-launch vehicle by 2026.🚀
Power Storage and Distribution Engineer
As part of the multidisciplinary engineering team, you will contribute to the design, development, integration, and verification of the onboard Electrical Power System (EPS) powering MaiaSpace’s next-generation launcher.
Your role covers the full electrical power chain : storage, conversion, and distribution, ensuring performance, reliability, and safety across all mission phases.
You will also collaborate on associated ground power infrastructures including charging architecture, test bench power handling and integration facility energy management.
You will join an Agile environment looking for innovation, technical ownership, and rigorous problem-solving from early design to launch operations.
Your main tasks:
Onboard Power Systems (Primary Scope)
Design and size onboard energy storage systems (batteries, supercapacitors, hybrid architectures).
Develop conversion, regulation, and power distribution schemes for launcher EPS.
Define performance requirements, design margins, and subsystem-level budgets (mass, power, thermal).
Select and qualify components such as cells, PCBs, power electronics, harnessing and protections.
Support development of Battery Management Systems (BMS) and protection logics.
Perform modelling and simulations of power flows, transients, and mission cases.
Collaborate closely with avionics, propulsion, GNC and thermal teams for interface coherence.
Ground Systems (Secondary Scope)
Contribute to charging solutions, ground power supply architectures and operational energy flows.
Define and validate EPS systems for integration benches, testing facilities and launch operations.
Guarantee consistency between onboard design and ground interfaces.
Verification, Integration & Operations
Prepare and execute EPS test plans (charge/discharge cycles, storage units, distribution paths).
Analyse test data, identify anomalies, propose fixes and root cause resolutions.
Support safety reviews, FMEA/FMECA and reliability assessments.
Provide support during integration campaigns, operational phases and post-flight analysis.
Requirements:
🎓 Qualification:
Master’s degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace, Energy Systems or related field.
3+ years of experience recommended (flexible depending on profile) in EPS development for space, aviation, automotive or high-reliability systems.
Experience in launcher/spacecraft or high-energy storage environments is strongly valued.
🛸 General competencies & abilities
Autonomous, rigorous and solution-driven mindset.
Strong communication and collaboration across engineering domains.
Ability to navigate fast-paced environments and adapt to evolving constraints.
Proactive troubleshooting attitude and continuous improvement orientation.
🛸 Preferred skills and experience
Strong understanding of battery technologies (Li-ion required; additional chemistries a plus).
Knowledge of power electronics (DC/DC, switching, protections).
Experience with electrical power distribution in aerospace or critical-reliability environments.
Proficiency in simulation tools (MATLAB/Simulink, Modelica, SPICE or similar).
Familiarity with hardware qualification, environmental tests and aerospace standards.
Understanding of thermal, mechanical and environmental impacts on EPS.
