What’s the job? About the role As part of Kingfisher’s Engineering Centre in Krakow, we are expanding our teams dedicated to Castorama Polska - one of the country’s most recognized DIY retail brands. These teams will be shaping the future of retail by building and evolving Castorama’s mobile app, e-commerce platform, and the back-office systems that power store operations across Poland. If you join us, you will not just be writing code - you will be directly influencing how millions of customers shop, browse, and interact with their local Castorama stores. From launching a new generation of mobile apps to streamlining in-store tech, your work will have a real, visible impact in your own backyard.
As a Mid Software Engineer within our frontend domain, you will contribute to building and maintaining high-quality, scalable solutions that support our business goals. You will work closely with your squad to solve technical challenges, improve our frontend systems, and deliver features that enhance the user experience.
In this role, you will collaborate with engineers, product managers, and designers, taking ownership of tasks and contributing to the overall technical direction of the team. With a passion for frontend technologies and a focus on continuous learning, you will play an important part in strengthening our engineering practices and delivering impactful products.
Responsibilities - Develop, maintain, and optimise frontend solutions to ensure they are reliable, scalable, and performant
- Collaborate with backend engineers, product managers, and designers to deliver features aligned with product goals
- Contribute to the frontend architecture and codebase, following best practices in coding, testing, and deployment
- Write clean, maintainable code and participate in code reviews to ensure high standards of quality
- Apply frontend testing frameworks (e.g. Playwright, Jest) to deliver robust and well-tested features
- Support CI/CD processes and help improve development workflows
- Keep accessibility and user experience best practices in mind when implementing features
- Stay up to date with evolving frontend technologies and suggest improvements where relevant
- Communicate progress and challenges clearly within the team and contribute to problem-solving discussions
What you’ll bring Skills and Experience - Strong experience with frontend technologies including TypeScript, HTML, CSS
- Practical experience using modern frameworks such as React.js (Remix a plus)
- Good understanding of web architecture and working with RESTful APIs, JSON, and GraphQL
- Experience with frontend testing tools (Playwright, Jest)
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and version control (e.g. GitLab, GitHub)
- Awareness of accessibility standards (WCAG) and user-centred design principles
- Solid understanding of software engineering practices, quality principles, and non-functional requirements
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to take ownership of tasks and deliver independently
- Good communication and collaboration skills within cross-functional teams
- Excellent command of English (written and spoken)
