What’s the job? About the role The Quality Engineering Chapter Lead - Craft is a key leadership position within the Chapter, focused on advancing Quality Engineering practices and technical standards across the organisation. Working closely with the Head of Chapter, fellow Chapter Leads, and Domain Leadership teams, the role drives continuous improvement in engineering excellence and ways of working within Kingfisher.
Drawing on extensive Quality Engineering expertise, the Chapter Lead supports and develops Principal Quality Engineers, strengthening capability and setting direction for the craft. The role also includes people leadership responsibilities, including line management where applicable, ensuring consistent growth, high standards, and a strong technical community.

Responsibilities - Technical Standards: Elevate the technical quality of Quality Engineering by defining, evolving, and embedding best-in-class QE standards, practices, and methodologies. Drive continuous improvement through active participation in QE communities of practice.
- Vision and Strategy: Shape and deliver the Quality Engineering strategic and operational roadmap in alignment with Group Technology objectives. Own the QE technical roadmap to ensure capability growth and alignment with organisational needs.
- Capability Development: Champion a growth mindset across the QE chapter, building strong technical and behavioural capability. Lead the creation and delivery of QE training paths, playbooks, and development programmes that raise engineering quality across teams.
- Coaching and Advisory: Act as a senior QE advisor, supporting chapter members and staying close to product teams to ensure high-quality engineering practices are applied consistently and effectively.
- Tooling Leadership: Drive continuous improvement of QE tooling, automation frameworks, and methods. Lead innovation in quality-related tools and technologies to enable efficient, scalable, and future-ready engineering practices.
- Relationship Management: Build trusted, collaborative relationships across engineering and product teams to ensure quality is embedded early, consistently, and collaboratively.
- Performance Management: Where appropriate, line-manage chapter members, supporting them with clear objectives, development plans, and performance outcomes.
- Talent Management: Work with the Head of Chapter and fellow Chapter Leads to shape QE succession planning and develop a strong pipeline of quality specialists and leaders.
- Belonging & Culture: Foster an inclusive and collaborative QE community that supports shared learning, high performance, and a strong sense of belonging.
What you’ll bring Skills - Substantial experience, appreciation and understanding in the field of quality engineering.
- Extensive experience leading large scale software functions in a multi-geo, multi-sourced landscape.
- Broad understanding of the IT industry, markets, trends, emerging technologies, and their implications for retail organisations.
- Experience of shaping, motivating, and driving change within a large, complex and fast-moving environment.
- Strong experience managing third party vendor partners.
- Strong cross functional awareness to ensure ability to work with and influence stakeholders across Chapters.
- Experience with workforce planning activities across a large-scale software function.
- Strong experience managing and executing talent acquisition strategies across a global workforce, working with internal and external talent partners.
- Excellent stakeholder management & influencing skills at all levels of the organisation.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
- Effective and creative problem-solving and decision-making.
- Able to navigate complexity and ambiguity to quickly identify simple/effective solutions.
