Descriptif du poste

What is the role?

Data and software solutions in the energy and climate space are growing at an incredible rate. Blunomy is growing the team to support the energy industry through its digitisation, decentralisation, and decarbonisation transition and to enable better operability and planning in Australia and around the world.

We are looking for someone passionate about energy and technology to do-well-and-do-good by delivering robust, scalable software and data engineering solutions.  As a Python Developer / Data Engineer, you will contribute to the development and maintenance of state-of-the-art software products and data pipelines within a fast-moving collaborative environment. In this setting, you will be exposed to a diversity of current energy challenges, leveraging your engineering and problem-solving skills to address them.

Example products

We are always growing the products we deliver but our current portfolio has grown to include:

  • Vision - Forecasting and Planning: model and predict the evolution of load on the electrical network. Use machine learning, data analytics and a fair amount of software development to forecast long-term energy consumption, daily energy profiles and Distributed Energy Resources (Electric Vehicles, Battery, Solar PV).

  • Vision Connect: dynamically model the energy network bringing together power flow modelling and machine learning to determine the DER hosting capacity of the local area. Used in production to approve hundreds of DER connection requests a day.

  • Bushfire risk modelling: model and compute the network‑related bushfire risk based on fault ignition likelihood. Calculate the consequences of bushfires such as property damage or agricultural loss.

  • Low-Voltage network mapping: identify errors within the current mapping of the low-voltage network, especially targeting customers whom connection to the network has not been properly recorded. This was performed using outlier detection with out-of-bag predictors.

Your tasks

Depending on the objectives, day-to-day work will entail tasks of varying nature. Your first focus will be on increasing the robustness, maintainability and consistency of our existing product portfolio. This may include:

  • Collaborating with product managers, project managers, and domain experts to deliver high-quality solutions on time.

  • Improving the maintainability and consistency of the codebase through refactoring and the adoption of software engineering best practices

  • Building scalable and reliable data pipelines and APIs to support our software products

  • Participating in code reviews, ensuring code quality and identifying areas for improvement

  • Diagnosing and debugging any identified issues

  • Keeping up to date with emerging trends and technologies in Python development.

While we leverage AI and advanced analytics as part of our digital solutions these models are already set up and operational. You will likely spend less than 10% of your time on AI model tuning and feature engineering and selection.

Why work for Blunomy?

You will be joining a passionate group of professionals, aligned in our mission to move towards a decarbonised, circular, and inclusive economy. As we are currently in a stage of significant growth, you will be much more than a ‘cog in the machine’ with the ability to make a real and lasting impact across the business. We are focused on finding the right people to journey with us, and to those who do, we offer:

  • Attractive salary packages

  • Ability to participate in the company bonus scheme

  • Hybrid working environment, based in either Melbourne or Sydney

  • Ability to be part of a global team

  • Ongoing learning and development opportunities

  • Weekly team lunch/breakfast

  • Access to our health and wellbeing platform, Moka Care
