ArianeGroup GmbH is looking for an ‘Intellectual Property Manager (m/f/d)’ for the department ‘Intellectual Property’ for 18 months in Bremen, Ottobrunn or Lampoldshausen.

Your main tasks and activities:
  • Capture propositions of invention; assess completeness and validity with experts before submitting to Intellectual Property committee for decision steering purpose
  • Animate and coordinate Intellectual Property committee, gather rational for decision, propose appropriate strategy of protection for invention, for foreign filing and validation decision, for portfolio pruning as well as portfolio-review and abandon decision, aligned with the strategy of the company
  • Coordinate the network of stakeholders for the Intellectual Property committee and information sharing towards the Intellectual Property committee member for consistent and successful decision purpose
  • Coordinate Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) matters in the frame of collaborative project with ArianeGroup partners
  • Coordinate drafting, filing and prosecution of patent application with the support of external Intellectual Property companies
  • Operate the efficient interface between Intellectual Property firms and inventors during the patent drafting
  • Ensure the alignment of the Intellectual Property firm proposition with the objective of the company for the drafting or for the answer to search report and official letters from the patent offices
  • Give instructions to companies with intellectual property in a due-time manner to maintain the validity of IPR
  • Deliver proactive support on Intellectual Property matter to the different department of the company, including engineering, program and legal; perform prior art search and third party patent survey
  • Perform “freedom to operate analysis”
  • Assist engineering department and program organizations with the identification and inventory of background Intellectual Property
  • Review Intellectual Property clauses with legal department for contracts, license and co-ownership agreement
  • Animate regular Intellectual Property awareness session
  • Support the legal department and program organisation for Intellectual Property rights exploitation and litigation
  • Review of internal as well as external planned publications / communications / presentations.
  • Within the department, operate and follow-up team administrative task including reporting, KPI, inventor remuneration, budget follow-up, participation to transnational team routines, etc.


You have the following qualifications:
  • Patent Engineer or Intellectual Property Manager qualification (preferably with engineering background)
  • 2 years of experience in in a similar position in industry or in an Intellectual Property firm
  • Solid knowledge and background of Intellectual Property matters and practices in the industry sector, in patent law and practice in particular
  • Ability to share and foster Intellectual Property stakes towards the different department of the company
  • Capacity to assert and deliver recommendations on complex cases whether on patentability, on freedom to operate or on counterfeiting matters
  • Ability to handle multiple projects with their priority in a challenging business environment
  • Thorough, autonomous and proactive way of working
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, easy with collaborative work in an international and multidisciplinary environment.
  • Knowledge of space industry is a bonus
  • Fluent in German and English, French is a plus

Few more words about our site of Bremen

This site, located on the outskirts of the Hanseatic city of Bremen in north-west Germany, has specialised in the development and manufacture of the upper stage of the Ariane launchers since the start of the programme. Its experts are responsible for the design, development and final integration of the Ariane 6 upper stage. They are also developing the Astris Kick Stage, an additional upper stage powered by the future reignitable bi-propellant engine called Berta, which will further enhance Ariane 6’s versatility. The Bremen site also produces metal tanks for the orbital propulsion systems.
