The international news agency AFP (Agence France-Presse) seeks an experienced, dynamic and innovative English-language reporter to join its editorial team in New Delhi.

This is a rare opportunity for the right candidate to join the staff of a global news organization with bureaus around the world, offering exceptional career development possibilities.

The correspondent will cover a broad range of topics from politics, social issues and the environment to technology and sports as part of a multi-media team producing both daily news and off-diary features.

You must be capable to produce fast, accurate and vivid news copy under deadline pressure, as well as original, imaginative features and analysis telling the story of India to a global audience.

You will strive to ensure multimedia coordination for simultaneous delivery of video, text, photo, factcheck to clients and generally operate under AFP’s high standards of accuracy and fair reporting.

You will closely monitor social media and strictly adhere to the Agency’s guidelines on social media activity. As a general rule, you commit to respecting AFP’s ethics charter as well as all the editorial guidelines in force and in the Agency’s style guide.

You will contribute to the fight against misinformation by helping factcheckers in the network and ensure you are trained in the various methods of online verification, now indispensable for all journalism. Online training is available here.

In an ever-changing media environment, the nature of the job could evolve in line with coverage demands and the requirements of an increasingly diverse client base.

There will be regular assignments within India and possibly overseas.

Reaching younger audiences is central to our coverage and the successful candidate will be packed with bright multimedia story ideas that will boost the file, in collaboration with the photo and video teams.

The job requires flexibility in terms of hours, including working evenings and weekends when necessary.


Profil recherché

  • The successful candidate will be an experienced text journalist (minimum 5 years) with top-notch writing and reporting skills and an established range of contacts. News agency experience would be an advantage but is not required

  • Native-level Hindi and fluent English are required, with other Indian languages e.g. Marathi would be an advantage.   A command of French would be an advantage also but is not essential

  • The reporter will have a sound knowledge of Indian politics, culture and social issues. The ability to cover cricket would be an advantage

  • Video and photo skills would also be an asset

  • The correspondent will be a good team player in an international workplace, able to spot and report stories of interest to AFP’s readers around the world. They must be comfortable using and monitoring social media
