The position

Job description

As an Electronic Money Institution, Swan faces many legal and regulatory challenges when conducting its business and operations : Fighting money laundering, protecting clients’ funds, working with legitimate partners, etc.

Swan is looking for a Head of Risk to lead our risk team in Europe.

As the Head of Risk, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and implementing risk management strategies to safeguard the company’s financial assets, maintain regulatory compliance, and foster a culture of risk awareness.

✨ Main tasks

  1. Risk Strategy Development:

    • Develop and implement a comprehensive risk management strategy aligned with business objectives and regulatory requirements.

    • Assess and analyse risks associated with financial transactions, operational processes, and technology infrastructure.

  2. Regulatory Compliance:

    • Implement regulatory changes in the financial industry and ensure the company’s adherence to all relevant laws and regulations.

    • Interact with agencies and authorities to address issues and maintain a proactive approach to risk management.

  3. Risk Management:

    • Develop and enhance the risk framework for our merchant collection product across diverse industries, including Financial Management Saas, crowdfunding or e-commerce.

    • Assess risk for business partners and clients, leveraging data analytics and risk modeling techniques.

    • Design and implement mitigation strategies while ensuring a balance between risk and business growth.

  4. Fraud Prevention:

    • Develop and implement robust fraud detection and prevention measures.

    • Collaborate with product and technology teams to enhance fraud detection systems and stay ahead of emerging threats.

  5. Risk Assessment and Reporting:

    • Conduct risk assessments on a regular basis, identifying potential areas of vulnerability.

    • Prepare and present comprehensive risk reports to executive leadership and the board.

  6. Cross-functional Collaboration:

    • Collaborate with various departments, including finance, legal, compliance, operations, product and technology, to integrate risk management into daily operations.

    • Provide guidance and training to employees on risk awareness and mitigation strategies.

  7. Build a world-class Risk organization

    • Provide guidance and training to employees on risk awareness and mitigation strategies.

    • Manage and lead your Risk team (second line of defense), providing guidance, mentorship, and coaching to team members.

    • Conduct training and awareness sessions for staff on Risk.

    • Drive people management initiatives, including hiring, performance reviews, ladder improvement, and employee retention.

Your Team

At Swan, you’ll have the opportunity to join our dynamic risk team, reporting to our Chief Risk Officer. Our team, currently consisting of three members, is actively expanding, with ongoing recruitment for one additional team member.

The Risk team operates within a department alongside the Compliance & Legal, and Internal Control teams.

Preferred experience

You’re a great match if:

  • You have significant experience (+10 years) in risk or audit in a financial institution, ideally in a Fintech or another fast-paced work environment.

  • Significant professional experience leading and managing high-performing teams.

  • Strong leadership and team management skills.

  • Familiarity with multiple payment methods (card, direct debit, APM).

  • Understanding of the challenges of a Payfac model.

  • Strong proposal and argumentation skills.

  • You possess the mindset of a “problem solver,” maintaining a positive and can-do attitude towards challenges and obstacles.

  • Strong analytical skills with an eye for detail.

  • Fluency in English.

  • Willingness to work in a Start-Up/Fintech environment.
