Job description

The Infrastructure team is responsible for operating and maintaining a scalable, robust and performant platform, to support both our growing customer base and engineering organisation. Our aim is to enable and empower engineers to self serve and deliver value to our customers in a fast, safe and autonomous manner.

As the Infrastructure Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for;

* Successful technical delivery of the team - from planning and discovery, through to delivery and support - utilising Agile processes and practices. The Infrastructure team has its own ambitious roadmap, but we also collaborate closely with Engineering squads to deliver complex transversal initiatives.

* Operational excellence of the Platform - ensuring the Platform is available for both customers and engineers, SLAs/SLOs are met, and incidents are effectively handled. As well as identifying bottlenecks which might impede scaling in the future.

* Management and growth of engineers - through 1:1s, performance reviews and objectives, it is important for all that we are able to deliver work of a high standard, in a sustainable manner, and engineers are able to learn, develop and grow their skills and career.

You will work with your team to define and implement the roadmap with quarterly objectives. In addition, you will be expected to be a champion of DevOps processes and practices across our engineering organisation, helping to advocate for cross-cutting initiatives around Reliability, Security, Scalability and Efficiency. You will also be expected to participate in the rituals of the teams including planning, grooming, stand-up and demos.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure our platform is scalable, robust and performant
  • Effective line management of 7+ Infrastructure Engineers
  • Help engineers grow and develop in their careers
  • Establish a productive, collaborative and ultimately enjoyable culture within the team
  • Define and implement team processes and ways of working
  • Lead planning and technical delivery of work on a sprint/quarter/6 month horizon
  • Who we are looking for:

  • Prior technical experience within an Infrastructure/DevOps/SRE/Platform team (ideally using AWS, but not a requirement)
  • 2-3 years of experience as an Engineering Manager for groups of 7-10 people
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Pragmatic mindset; able to balance technical correctness with business priorities
  • Takes initiative, identifies problems and proactively proposes solutions
  • Experience managing a distributed engineering team
  • Fluent in written and spoken English - it is our business language
  • Experience of SaaS / FinTechs is advantageous but not required
  • Our Stack

  • AWS as our cloud compute platform
  • Kubernetes (EKS) for container runtime and orchestration
  • RDS (Postgres), Kafka, Elasticache (Redis), Terraform
  • DataDog for Observability
  • GitHub Actions for CI/CD
  • Backend services are developed in NodeJS (TypeScript)
  • Frontend is React
  • As we are an international team, please submit your application and CV in English.
