Job description

Site Reliability Engineers (SRE) at PayLead are both systems and security engineers that ensure we can reliably and securely serve our clients (banks, insurances, fintech, retailers). As we operate multiple services (API, front-ends) for our clients, and within a complex regulatory and competitive framework, you’ll keep learning new things everyday and share what you have learned with the team.

The platform we develop uses bare-metal systems running on providers LeaseWeb and OVH. Since our infrastructure is a critical component of many applications, the SRE team maintains a high level of expertise in system failures in order to prevent them and provide reliable service to our customers.

The team is composed of engineers with different backgrounds and experiences both in the industry and academia. We expect you to bring your curiosity, your eagerness to learn, and your passion for excellence and quality!

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in the security design and technical architecture of new systems and software
  • Own your platform area: take part to design discussions, support users, document the system, plan technical improvements
  • Handle production and security incidents
  • Anticipate potential issues through monitoring, thorough testing and planning
  • Work with the team to improve the platform’ reliability, performance and security
  • Review your peers’ configuration and code

Preferred experience

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Knowledge of Shell scripting and at least one scripting language (Python, Ruby, etc.)
  • Understanding of Linux systems: I/O, process scheduling, filesystems
  • Understanding of computer security: OWASP top 10, firewalls, IDS, IPS
  • Understanding of computer networks: TCP/IP, DNS, routing, load-balancing
  • Understanding of web applications and protocols: HTTP, SSL/TLS
  • Experience in managing Linux systems — including as a personal project
  • Knowledge of high security standards
  • Professional English proficiency
  • Rigor in high code quality, automated testing, and other engineering best practices
  • Ability to communicate clearly on design and security topics
  • Ability to make independent decisions and taking ownership for them

NICE TO HAVE’S (Optional)

  • At least one year of system/security engineering experience
  • Having managed a platform used in production
  • Knowledge of Postgres
  • Basics of an orchestration framework (Docker Swarm, Kubernetes, Nomad)
  • Configuration management tool (e.g. Chef, Salt, …)
  • Knowledge of low-level principles of computers and network components
  • Performance profiling of applications both in development and production
  • Terraform knowledge or CloudFormation with notions of AWS

Recruitment process

After a first call with a senior member of the team, you will receive a short code assignment before being invited for an (ideally on-site) interview.
During that interview, you will have a technical discussion and the occasion to chat with the team and the founders.
