Job description

Tech at October

We think reinventing financing is a massive tech challenge, that’s why we built October as a tech and data-driven startup. Today, 15 developers are working on building the best financing experience ever made, very closely to the Product team.

We love JavaScript at October. That’s why every part of our stack is based on JS: we use Node.js (with some TypeScript) and MongoDB on the back-end, Ember.js on the front-end, and React Native on mobile. The platform runs on AWS, deployed using Terraform and Github Actions. You can take a look at our whole stack here: https://stackshare.io/october.

We believe in ownership and mentoring at October. By following good code practices and through code review, we make sure to deliver quality code and allow developers to grow their skills.

We follow the Scrum methodology: the Tech and Product teams are split in 3 squads, a 4th squad being built currently.

Your daily work

  • Write technical specifications for the features defined with the Product team
  • Write clean Node.js / TypeScript code with related tests
  • Help build a scalable infrastructure on AWS
  • Build a robust API consumed by our Web / mobile apps and our SaaS clients
  • Review code from other developers

Preferred experience

What we need from you

  • You’ve built a backend using an OOP or functional programming language
  • You’re fluent in JavaScript / TypeScript or eager to learn it
  • You have experience with a DBMS (SQL or NoSQL)
  • You have knowledge of the code quality best practices (tests, CI/CD, …)
  • You’re curious and eager to extend your technical skills
  • You can speak and work in English

Recruitment process

We follow a 4-steps interview process (2/3 weeks):

  1. First, a 20-minute introduction call with our CTO / HR Manager
  2. A JavaScript home project (you have a week to complete it)
  3. Then, an hour-long interview with the CTO and a lead developer,
  4. Finally, an hour-long interview with our Head of Internal Ops (with a data modelisation exercise) and another developer
