Job description

About the role:

We are seeking a seasoned professional for the role of Director of Controller & Accounting, who will spearhead the internalization of our accounting processes and contribute to comprehensive reporting. This pivotal position involves leading all accounting functions, including monthly closures, translating accounting data into business-focused insights, and overseeing internal and external reporting, audits, systems, and policies.

As a vital member of our team, you will join the Head of Finance in spearheading the finance function to the next level. This role presents an exciting opportunity for professional growth, including the potential to expand the internal team in tandem with the company’s evolving needs. We view this position as strategic, as it will play a key role in providing an in-depth and real-time overview of the company, facilitating informed strategic decisions. While hands-on execution in accounting is a current focus, this role is designed to offer substantial exposure to the intricacies of our business, allowing for hierarchical and responsibility growth alongside the company’s development.

Responsibilities:

·       Maintain Accurate Accounting Records: implement and ensure the ongoing accuracy of all accounting records, encompassing the balance sheet, profit and loss (P&L), and cash flow statement.

·       Financial Reporting Ownership: take full ownership of the preparation, review, and accuracy of various financial reports, including financial, managerial, and investor reporting.

·       Tax Reporting: Monitor and adhere to all crucial tax reporting and payment deadlines

·       Cash Management: proactively prepare and plan cash requirements

·       Automation and Process Streamlining: identify opportunities for the automation of manual processes and spearhead system implementations to streamline accounting and reporting procedures

·       Advisor Relationship Management: manage key relationships with service providers, including auditors, accountants, technical accounting advisors, and strategic partners.

·       Financial Performance Analysis and Decision Support: collaborate with the Head of Finance to analyze the company’s financial performance, providing insightful recommendations to both management and the executive committee. Offer crucial support for key decision-making processes

Preferred experience

Our ideal candidate:

We are looking for an accomplished professional with the following qualifications:

•         Audit and Accounting Expertise: a robust background of 3-5 years in audit or accounting, preferably with a leading firm in France

•         Start-up Experience: demonstrated experience in a fast-growing startup within the accounting or finance department for a well-rounded perspective

•         Business Acumen: possesses strong business acumen, recognizing that accounting serves a dual purpose — not only for public reporting but also as a tool to enhance the company’s understanding of its operations and to drive strategic decisions

•         Project Management Excellence: proven project management skills, showcasing meticulous attention to detail and the ability to effectively prioritize and lead high-priority initiatives on concurrent timelines

•         Understanding of Key Finance Tools: experience in working with and implementing key finance tools, staying abreast of industry best practices and technological advancements

•         Analytical Prowess: strong analytical skills, including a working knowledge of SQL and data analysis tools, enabling insightful data-driven decision-making.

•         You: most of all we are looking for an ambitious individual, looking to take on a new challenge in a fast pace environment

You might thrive in this role if:

·       Self Starter: you thrive on initiative, possessing the enthusiasm to lead multiple projects in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment. Taking ownership of your work is second nature to you

·       Passion for Challenges: you’re excited about new challenges. You don’t have the answers to every question up front, but the process of solving them invigorates you. Novel issues requiring multidimensional knowledge excite you

·       Phenomenal teammate: you’re a strong communicator who can explain complex topics with ease, in any format. Companies don’t excel when working in silos. You understand the importance of keeping everyone in the loop, and you take proactive measures to do so. You’re intellectually honest

·       Leader by Example: leadership is ingrained in your approach. You mentor your peers, contribute to setting agendas, and adeptly resolve company-wide issues. Identifying opportunities for cross-functional projects, you willingly step in to lead them. Your unwavering commitment to quality is evident, and you actively coach your colleagues to reach elevated levels of performance

·       Builder: you relish the opportunity to directly influence how a company operates. Building strong systems and processes from the ground up is not just a task but a passion. Understanding that an organization’s strength lies in its foundation, you bring a builder’s mindset to every aspect of your work
