The position

Job description

As part of the R&D of Synamedia Video Network BU, you will join the Edge/CDN team, in charge of the development of OTT video contents distribution. This team is growing and is looking for an R&D Manager, whose role will be both hierarchical and driving the project. This project is held in an international, multi-site context, with multiple teams contributing to the development of product features (each team having their own perimeter). Teams are spread over France (Rennes), North America, and India. The total team size is about 20 engineers.

 Main missions:

 People Management

·       Contribute to the recruitment of new team members

·       Grow people: Manage individual team members’ performance, align their individual objectives with those of the company, manage team members career evolution.

·       Grow the team: manage team performance, accelerate continuous improvement practices.

Process / Organisation

·       Continuously audit and improve software development practices / processes : agility, baklog prioritization (at the CDN portfolio level), quality of the deliverables, documentation, etc

CDN Product Ownership

·       Vision

o   Work with the Product Manager, architects and the CTO to maintain a vision of the product, the associated strategy, and therefore influence the content of each team’s sprint

·       Developments follow-up

o   Maintain and refine the backlog, with the support of PM, developers and architects

o   Manage development efforts (sprint content & deadlines, velocity, …)

o   Prioritize backlogs in agreement with the Product Manager

o   Write User Stories for new functionalities, spikes, technical activities

o   Make sure acceptance criteria are well defined

o   Make sure that the appropriate functional and performance tests are included in the tasks related to user stories

o   Organize and contribute to agile ceremonies with the team

o   Represent the team for discussions with other departments/stakeholders, for example when asked about a given feature’s availability

·       Run/Support

o   Ensure that documentation is up to date and deployment/troubleshoot procedures are available

o   Work with ops/support team to gather feedback on production so as to improve future releases

o   Coordinate production incidents follow-up whenever needed


Preferred experience

MSc / Bac +5 (Engineering school or university) with a major in IT/Network

At least 5 years in a similar role, in an international context

 A previous experience in CDN solutions development would be a very valuable bonus !

 We are looking for someone enthusiastic, that would have the following knowledge or expertise:

·       Previous experience in multi-site, international R&D teams

·       Backlog management & prioritization

·       Good knowledge about virtualized or even ideally public cloud infrastructures

·       Great communication skills, you know how to communicate about product vision, and focus team on a common objective

·       English (read/written/spoken) is an absolute must-have

The following skills would be a plus:

Public cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure)

Cloud native applications orchestration/management tools (eg Kubernetes, Terraform, Helm)

Knowledge about OTT Streaming technologies (eg audio/video codecs, encryption, HLS, DASH, etc)

Knowledge about Logging & Monitoring tools (eg Prometheus, Grafana, Loki etc)

Knowledge about network protocols (eg SRT, RTMP, HTTP, multicast etc=

Experience in massive real-time data processing environments, data lakes etc


Recruitment process
