The position

Job description

To reach its goal of 1 billion trees planted in the next 10 years, Reforest’Action is linking its activities to the Voluntary Carbon Market. It intends to use carbon finance as a tool to leverage development of forest-related projects with outstanding value for communities, soil, biodiversity, and climate.

The VCM is a market-based tool designed to channel financial flows towards emission reduction solutions and enhancement of carbon pools. It allows individuals and organizations to finance demonstrated carbon removals at an optimized cost-for-impact. As an industry, the VCM is constantly evolving to remain at the forefront of emission reductions monitoring, while continuously raising the bar in terms of credibility of the credits generated.

The Voluntary Carbon Market is expected to grow 15-fold by 2030 and demand for forest-based carbon credits is already driving the development of our reforestation and forest conservation activities.

In this context, Reforest’Action is looking for a Senior Carbon Expert/Supervisor to support the Certified carbon Project team on AFOLU project certification under Voluntary Carbon Market standards. 

YOUR KEY MISSIONS

·       Supervise a portfolio of certified projects

-      Be responsible for the operational performance and certification of a portfolio of AFOLU projects

-      Working as a Referent Manager with each project team members on every step of the project: Opportunity Study, Feasibility Study, Project Preparation and Project Implementation

-      A advise and support the project team members, , Project Officer and other stakeholders if needed

-      Participate in strategic meetings with stakeholders, with the project team members

-      Validate and endorse responsibility for all deliverables: opportunity and feasibility reports, project documentation as per the certification cycle, business plans, contracts, etc.

-      Participate with vote at all decision committee in the certified carbon Project process

-      Support project sale and participate to technical meetings with strategic clients

-      Collaborate with the Impact Assessment team for development of necessary tools

-      Collaborate in standardization of models and tools to facilitate scale-up of project development in the defined technologies / thematic areas

·       Collaborate in capacity building and streamlining internal processes

-      Collaborate with the Tropical Forest team to create permanent capacity building processes and tools

-      Participate directly in capacity building activities and on boarding of new collaborators

-      Review existing processes, identify potential blocking points or risks associated, and provide recommendations on possible adjustments

-      Contribute to interactions with the Impact Assessment Team to align monitoring protocols and carbon calculation tool with standard requirements / guidelines / works

·       Contribute to watch and innovate on carbon-related topics

-      Conduct thematic watch on new methodologies and innovative topics upon request.

-      Contribute to the preparation of position papers and technical notes to the Executive Committee.

-      Participate to working groups and represent Reforest’Action on relevant technical topics.


Preferred experience

Qualifications and experiences

-      At least 7 years of experience in the VCM

-      Experience in development of a portfolio of carbon projects

-      Experience in structuring and scaling-up a team or a small business

-      Ability to achieve in-dept mastery of technical topics and close project supervision while offering constructive hindsight into strategic topics and transverse aspects of team structuration and scaleup.
