The position

Job description

We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated plant in vitro culture and transgenesis expert to join our “Plants & Transformation” team and help us get our most ambitious R&D project to the next level: Transforming and regenerating our enhanced plants. You will need to have excellent scientific background and rigour, as well as be comfortable with managing many parallel workstreams. You need to be equally comfortable with pushing the boundary of what can be done in plant transgenesis by using your ingenuity, troubleshooting and critical thinking skills. From day 1 you will work on crucial topics to achieve results within an aggressive timeline. Your work will impact all future Neoplants products, and thus will be instrumental in achieving our long-term vision.

Main missions (but not limited to):

  • Develop, optimize, and maintain plant in vitro culture protocols

  • Design and execute plant genetic transformation experiments (Biolistic (mandatory experience in Tobacco transformation), Agrobacterium-mediated, protoplast transfection, or novel methods)

  • Generate, select, and regenerate transgenic plants across diverse species, ensuring high efficiency and reproducibility

  • Maintain sterile culture conditions and resolve contamination issues or bottlenecks related to regeneration.

  • Collaborate with molecular biology teams on vector design, construct validation, and downstream analysis of transformants

  • Document experimental protocols, results, and data analyses in compliance with GLP, biosafety, and intellectual property guidelines

  • Train and mentor junior scientists or technicians in in vitro culture and transformation techniques

  • Contribute to cross-functional projects by providing technical expertise and innovative solutions to plant trait development challenges.


Preferred experience

Required:

  • Ph.D. or M.Sc. in Plant Biotechnology, Plant Sciences, Molecular Biology, or related discipline.

  • 2–5+ years of hands-on experience in plant in vitro culture and transformation (academic or industry setting).

  • Extensive experience in plant cell culture and protoplast manipulation of non-model plants

  • Extensive experience in plant in-vitro tissue culture and transformation of non- model plants (callus, regeneration, micropropagation)

  • Deep expertise in molecular biology, plant cell biology and plant physiology

  • Experience with Agrobacterium-mediated and biolistic transformation methods.

  • Expertise in CRISPR-Cas9 mediated plant genetic editing.

  • Ability to work autonomously with little or no supervision

  • Extreme scientific rigor and attention to details

  • Competence in molecular biology techniques (DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, cloning, qPCR, sequencing).

  • Skilled in data collection, statistical analysis, and use of laboratory information management systems (LIMS).

  • Very strong team spirit

  • Proactive and action-driven mindset

  • Proficiency in English
