Position Summary:
This position is responsible for performing precision initial Set Up of jobs in machines. Primarily but not limited to Swiss Operations. The role will also serve as the primary back up to the Set Up Readiness Technician. Overall agenda to reduce set up time plant wide though use of SMED system and increased skill. On occasion may be asked to run production or participate improvement projects
Key Responsibilities:

  1. Perform most critical set ups daily with direction from Production supervisor and Set Up Readiness Technician in a fast efficient manner
  2. Lead and Participate in SMED CI Projects to reduce plant wide set up time
  3. Provide leadership or mentoring to other machinist performing set ups
  4. Assist Set Up Readiness Technician with suggested improvements and document management.
  5. Directly back up Set Up Readiness Technician role
  6. Promote effective team building within the department and with other departments.
  7. Complete required documentation for all jobs responsible for, including entering data into ERP system.
  8. Other duties as assigned.
    Required Qualifications:
    • A related machine trades certificate/diploma and five years relevant experience, OR, seven years relevant experience.
    • Experience setting up and operating complex machine tools.( Primary Swiss)
    • Intermediate ability to read and interpret assembly drawings and specifications.
    • Proficient in the use of machinist hand tools and measuring tools, process planning and inspection.
    • Machine shop math skills.
    • Proficient PC skills in a Windows environment.
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
    • Strong organizational and planning skills.
    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience editing programs through machine controls and general understanding of programming
    • Demonstrated problem-solving ability in a machine shop environment.
    • Previous Set Up experience related to SMED Projects
    • Experience using an ERP system.
    • Ideal candidate will progress towards Future Programming role
    Physical Demands:
    • Strength, agility and movement: work involves lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching, climbing and handling of materials and parts.
    • Level of exertion: work ranges between medium and heavy, consisting of occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force. Work may require repetitive hand motions.
    • Sensory ability: good vision is required. Field of vision needs to be sufficient to work safely around machines and equipment. Depth perception and hand-eye coordination is required. Good hearing is required.
    • Communication: verbal and written communication skills are required.

• Participate in the development and promotion of the HSE culture
• Be exemplary in terms of health, safety and the environment, in particular by :

o Implementing preventive actions to reduce the environmental footprint and control health and safety risks
• Participate, upon request, in analyses (of risks, incidents) and HSE working groups related to his/her professional scope
• Be familiar with the main health and safety risks and the main environmental impacts relating to the scope of his/her work
• Be familiar with the site's HSE policy and objectives
• To be able to make proposals for improving working conditions and limiting environmental impact

Mental Requirements:•    Reading:  the ability to read and interpret instructions, blueprints, engineering drawings and specification sheets as required.

• Writing: writing skills at a level consistent with preparing documentation.
• Verbal skills: verbal communication needs to be at a level consistent with providing explanation on technical matters, such as when instructing others.
• Reasoning ability: reasoning ability needs to be at a level consistent with solving apparent problems through probing or research for precise identification. Solutions are based on standard procedures or well-established precedent.

Working Conditions:•    Eye protection is required at all times.

• Exposure to moving parts and equipment.
• Occasional exposure to loud noise requiring hearing protection.
Compensation and Benefits Overview
Starting Pay Range for this position is $30-$40/ Hour
Minimum pay rates offered will comply with applicable county or city regulations if they exceed the listed range. Actual pay rates are determined based on various factors, including but not limited to, local labor market conditions, years of relevant experience, education, professional certifications, foreign language proficiency, and other job-specific qualifications.
