The position

Job description

Mission
DNA Script is looking for a R&D Fermentation Engineer to reinforce the development and production of its proprietary enzymes. You will join the enzyme production team composed of 6 persons and support the fermentation activities under the supervision of the USP leader. You will be in charge of optimizing the fermentation process of different enzymes in bioreactor from lab scale to pre-pilot scale in order to increase the production yield of those enzymes. You will also manage strain optimization by using conventional molecular biology tools. You will participate to the production of enzyme batches in order to support R&D activities.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the implementation of the optimization and production strategy
  • Conduct fermentations at different scales in bioreactors in autonomy
  • Perform optimizations in plates, flasks and bioreactors (500 ml to 30 L)
  • Ensure the quality and analytical monitoring of fermentations
  • Analyze, report and present the results
  • Suggest areas for improvement in order to increase the productivity of the enzymes produced
  • Manage strain optimization (construction, evaluation and storage of strain collection)
  • Conduct experiments by following laboratory procedures and GLP
  • Participate in the common tasks of the fermentation team: management of stocks and reagents (medium, strain, plasmid, petri dish), weekly cleaning

Preferred experience

  • Holds a Master or an engineer degree in the field of biotechnology
  • At least 2-3 years of experience in fermentation
  • Knowledge in the implementation of experience plan (DOE)
  • Experience in the production of recombinant proteins and in protein expression screening in microtiter plate format
  • Experience in operating bioreactors in batch, fed batch and continuous culture mode
  • Experience in soluble/insoluble protein extraction as well as SDS-PAGE analysis
  • Skills in molecular biology (cloning, vector design) will be appreciated
  • Experience in colorimetric assays for the analysis of metabolites and substrates
  • Proactive with team spirit
  • Appreciate lab work in a dynamic and evolving environment
  • Good writing and synthesis skills
  • Good level of English
  • Knowledge in French
