Our company is on a mission to enhance our API by implementing engineering-wide standardization, API contract testing, tooling to detect breaking changes, and by bringing the API specification and code closer together. We also want to improve our developer portal by adding additional implementation examples to increase user engagement. We anticipate significant improvements, including a 20% increase in user engagement, a 30% reduction in API response times, and a 15% boost in overall customer satisfaction. To achieve these goals, we are seeking a dedicated engineer to focus on our API and to lead these initiatives. The ideal candidate will be hands-on building automation tooling, able to work with other engineers to onboard them to the best practices, and rolling out engineering-wide changes that will have positive impacts on all teams.

Scope of Changes

1. Standardize on a single API. We need to rationalize what endpoints should be public to focus on an experience driven API
2. Update the API documentation site to include fully documented examples of implementations for multiple use cases that our customers have with our API
3. Implement API Contract testing automation
4. Add automation to our CI/CD pipeline to automatically detect breaking changes

Primary focus

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience)
• Framework .NET (Experienced)
• NodeJS / Express (Intermediate)
• Proven experience in API documentation and developer portal management
• Intermediate experience with API Contract testing
• Familiarity with rate-limiting and Kong is a plus
• Proficiency in standardizing API practices, versioning, and security
• Experience with SDK development or automation
• Strong technical background with expertise in API design and implementation
  • Documentation with OpenAPI 3
  • API code generation with OAS3
  • Experience with GraphQL a plus

Ops

• Exposure to kubernetes or similar infrastructure orchestration
• Exposure to containers (docker)

General

• Knowledge of version control software with git (Intermediate)
• Senior level knowledge of the principles of unit testing
• Intermediate level experience with cloud environments (architecture, deployments, services)
• Senior level knowledge of agile methodologies, or can be an advocate of agile methodologies
• Knowledge of good development practices (SOLID, KISS, YAGNI, etc) (Intermedia)
• Comfortable working in English, and writing public facing documentation in English.
