Job description

Hi, we’re Back Market.

We’re here to help make tech reliable, affordable, and better than new. We're a global marketplace for refurbished devices, helping lower our collective environmental impact by providing trustworthy, affordable tech with 92% less carbon emissions than new.

Yep, you read that right. Turns out refurbished tech is way better for the planet than new. In fact, With every device purchased on Back Market, our positive impact on the planet grows. From our Customer Care representatives to our software engineer, every individual at Back Market cuts the planet — and consumers — a break. Our mission is simple: to do more with what we already have.

Are you ready to join us?

We are looking for a Backend Engineer Intern to join our Lifecycle Squad. You’ll contribute to deprecating a legacy CRM service by helping deliver a robust, well-documented, provider‑agnostic client library that feature teams can adopt and operate more directly.

YOUR MISSION (IF YOU ACCEPT IT): 🥇

Support the team in replacing our legacy CRM service by contributing to a provider‑agnostic CRM client library that is easy to adopt, reliable in production, and observable by default.

You will:

  • Participate in building a Python CRM client with a clean, typed API for core operations (user attributes, events, subscriptions, messaging triggers)

  • Assist in implementing first-class observability (metrics, logs, traces), and contribute to dashboards/alerts and SLO tracking (success rate, latency)

  • Contribute to reliability features such as retries (with jittered backoff), circuit breaking, safe failure handling, and distributed rate limiting aligned with upstream quotas

  • Help with migration efforts by supporting the creation of adapters, feature flags, and rollout/rollback playbooks to enable a smooth transition for feature teams

  • Participate in writing tests (unit, integration, end-to-end) and producing clear documentation and usage examples

  • Work closely with feature teams during pilots to collect feedback and iterate on the API and developer experience, with guidance from experienced engineers

  • Bonus: If you’re interested, you can contribute to a Golang (Go) variant with a matching API surface and similar observability/reliability patterns.

YOU ARE IN THE RIGHT PLACE IF: ⭐

  • Mandatory! Currently enrolled in your last year of an Engineering School with a backend specialization/ University Master's degree and your university can provide an internship agreement

  • You have knowledge of basic coding languages and ideally Python and have basic programming experience (other internships, github, personal or student projects).

  • You have knowledge of databases and operating systems, Linux is a plus.

  • You have the ability to learn new software and technologies quickly, being curious about the coding environment you’ll evolve in.

  • You are detail-oriented and have the desire and ability to work in a team in an international environment.

  • You are fluent in English - French is a plus.

  • You are looking for a 6 month, full-time role (35h/week), internship from March/April 2026

  • You are authorized to work in France (EU Nationality or in possession of valid student visa/work permit).

ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP: ℹ️

  • Starting date: March/April 2026

  • Duration: 6 months

  • Full-time internship (35h/week - Monday to Friday)

  • Location: Paris, France
