Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Parametric Underwriter to play a central role in the technical and strategic oversight of parametric underwriting activities within an established international insurance platform.

The role sits within a specialist parametric insurance function operating at the intersection of data, science and risk transfer. The organisation structures solutions for complex commercial and institutional risks, using advanced modelling, proprietary indices and bespoke contract design. It operates across multiple regions and works closely with distribution partners and risk capital providers to deliver scalable parametric solutions.

This position combines hands on product structuring with technical leadership, peer review and close collaboration across commercial, data science and modelling teams. You will be instrumental in maintaining underwriting discipline, driving technical quality and supporting the continued development of a growing underwriting capability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee, review and validate technical analyses and coverage proposals prepared by underwriters, ensuring quality, consistency and adherence to internal standards.

  • Support and mentor underwriters, contributing to workload prioritisation, technical development and performance oversight.

  • Design and structure bespoke parametric insurance products, including trigger design, thresholds, payout mechanisms and contractual terms aligned to client risk profiles.

  • Work closely with commercial teams to ensure technical solutions are aligned with client objectives and distribution requirements.

  • Collaborate with data science, modelling and actuarial teams to ensure technical robustness, appropriate index selection and sound pricing.

  • Prepare and present underwriting submissions for internal review and approval, including peer review of underwriting files.

  • Participate in technical discussions and negotiations with clients, brokers and risk partners, providing underwriting insight and judgement.

  • Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of underwriting methodologies, tools and processes, incorporating innovation, feedback and market developments.

  • Maintain awareness of regulatory, market and climate related developments impacting parametric products and underwriting strategy.

  • Support broader underwriting initiatives and cross functional projects across assigned markets.

Preferred experience

Candidate Profile

  • 5 to 10 years’ experience in underwriting, risk analysis or actuarial roles, ideally with exposure to climate risk, weather risk, natural catastrophe and or parametric insurance.

  • Experience providing technical oversight, mentoring or informal leadership is advantageous.

  • Strong academic background in a quantitative or scientific discipline such as engineering, actuarial science, meteorology or statistics.

  • Strong analytical skills with sound technical judgement and decision making capability.

  • Confident communicator with the ability to collaborate effectively in an international, fast paced environment
