Job description

Alice & Bob is developing the first universal, fault-tolerant quantum computer to solve the world’s hardest problems.

The quantum computer we envision building is based on a new kind of superconducting qubit: the Schrödinger cat qubit 🐈‍⬛. In comparison to other superconducting platforms, cat qubits have the astonishing ability to implement quantum error correction autonomously!

We're a diverse team of 140+ brilliant minds from over 20 countries united by a single goal: to revolutionise computing with a practical fault-tolerant quantum machine. Are you ready to take on unprecedented challenges and contribute to revolutionising technology? Join us, and let's shape the future of quantum computing together!

Are you comfortable working at the intersection of advanced technology and complex export regulations? Do you enjoy building clarity in environments where products, supply chains and international exposure evolve quickly?

We are looking for an Export Controls Specialist to take ownership of export control topics in a fast-growing quantum computing company. This is a hands-on role within Alice & Bob, with cross-functional exposure.

As Export Controls Specialist, you will be responsible for assessing, structuring and maintaining the company’s export control framework across France, the EU and the United States.

The role focuses on mapping activities, determining regulatory exposure, conducting classifications and supporting licensing and compliance processes. You will work closely with Legal, R&D, Supply Chain, Sales and HR.

This is an expert role requiring autonomy, rigor and the ability to work effectively with technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Map products, technologies, software, data flows and supply chain to identify export control exposure
  • Identify applicable regulatory regimes, including EU Dual-Use Regulation (EU) 2021/821, relevant French controls and U.S. EAR
  • Conduct and document product and technology classifications (EU Annex I, ECCN analysis, technology controls)
  • Assess deemed export and foreign national access risks
  • Support the preparation and submission of license applications where required
  • Contribute to the development and documentation of internal compliance processes and procedures
  • Implement screening and transaction review processes in coordination with relevant teams
  • Deliver targeted awareness sessions to internal stakeholders (R&D, Supply Chain, Sales, HR)
  • Monitor regulatory developments and assess their operational impact
  • Handle compliance with international sanctions
  • 2+ years of experience in export controls or trade compliance (industry or consulting firm)
  • Demonstrated experience with EU Dual-Use Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2021/821)
  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. Export Administration Regulations (EAR)
  • Proven experience conducting product and/or technology classifications
  • Experience supporting or contributing to an Internal Compliance Program
  • Master’s degree in law, international trade, compliance, engineering or related field
  • Professional fluency in English (written and spoken)
  • Experience in deeptech, semiconductor, quantum, hardware or advanced electronics sectors
  • Experience interacting with export control authorities
  • Ability to work effectively with highly technical R&D teams
  • Pragmatic mindset and ability to balance regulatory rigor with operational constraints
  • Comfort operating in a growing, partially structured environment
