We are looking for a junior Analytics Engineer (or “BI Engineer”) -he/she/they- to join our Data Team . You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining SQL models and data pipelines that enable data analysis, reporting, and visualization, empowering stakeholders to gain valuable insights and make data-driven decisions.. You will work inside the Data Team (2 Data Engineers, 2 Analytics Engineers, 4 Data Analysts, 1 Data scientist) and you will report to the Head of Growth and Data.

“Analytics Engineer” is a relatively new role that became critical in most Data Teams. Applicants from diverse backgrounds, including computer science, statistics, mathematics, or related fields, are encouraged to apply. A strong foundation in SQL and a passion for data analysis, problem-solving, and transforming raw data into actionable insights are essential for success in this role.

Team description

The Data team at 52 entertainment is full of talents working on Marketing, Product and Business KPIs. It is a cross-functional team that connects with all business units (US, Europe, Asia).

The Data team is fully remote (based in Europe).
Our European offices are located in Paris, Lille, Sanary-sur-Mer (FR) & Varna (BG).

Stack

Modern Data Stack: Airbyte, Prefect, Google BigQuery, dbt, Github, VSCode, Deepnote & Looker

Project Management: Slack, Google Drive, Confluence, Jira

The Analytics Engineering activities will focus on Google BigQuery, dbt and Looker.

Missions

  • Talk to Backend Developers to understand available data sources

  • Write SQL queries for various purposes (data cleaning, KPI modeling, …)

  • Architecture a clean and scalable transformation pipeline using dbt

  • Document newly created database models (comments in code, wiki pages)

  • Audit raw and transformed data and create data quality tests

  • Connect the created databases into Looker, our BI tool

  • Maintain and configure Looker (user access/permissions)

Preferred experience

Your Profile

  • Location: Remote (European-based applications only)

  • Experience: 0-3 years (in a data-related role)

  • Highly open minded

  • Fluent in English

Your Skills

  • Intermediate SQL skills. You will learn advanced SQL on the job, but you will be required to know a few standard SQL commands to be invited for an interview.

  • Basic Software Engineering tools/concepts (Code Editors, Git versioning …) understanding.

  • Nice to have: Business Intelligence (BI) tool (Looker, Tableau, ..)


Recruitment process

Interview steps

  • Step 1 Visio-call - Preliminary interview where the scope of mission, our company, your aspirations, and salary compensation are discussed to see if we agree on the important things on both sides (30 min)

  • Step 2 Written case-study - Few questions to check that written communication is clear

  • Step 3 Technical case-study - SQL skills check (take home assignment) on some data problems + few questions to check that written communication is clear (no more than 45min of involvement)

  • Step 3 Visio-call - Debrief from assignment + Experience and background discussion to get to know you and your experience in Data.
