Our impact

The protection of the environment is the foundation of our company, a prerequisite. For our founders, breeding insects was a sustainable alternative to traditional proteins. For example, we use 98% less land and 40% less resources to produce one kilo of insects than a traditional farm.

Ÿnsect is part of the circular economy: we do not produce waste. We recycle insect frass to create a fertilizer that can be used in organic farming, which has been shown to produce results on growth and health than chemical fertilizers.

Nevertheless, all human activity has an effect on our environment. At Ÿnsect, we are aware of this and consider that it is our responsibility to implement actions to limit and reduce our impact as much as possible. That' s why in 2019 we created a cross-functional department called 'Impact'. The aim of this department is to qualify, measure and calculate the consequences of our activities on the world around us, and to encourage our teams to always do better. It is this famous "more with less" that pushes us to improve on a daily basis.

It is within this framework that we carry out life cycle analyses (LCA), the most advanced tool in terms of global and multi-criteria assessment of environmental impacts. This study allows us to say today that our activity is carbon negative: we avoid and sequester more CO2 than we emit.

Rewilding the world

En 2019, nous avons lancé notre programme « rewilding the world » en partenariat avec des associations et des initiatives citoyennes. Ce programme a pour ambition de protéger la biodiversité et les espaces de vie sauvage de la manière la plus efficace, collaborative et contraignante légalement possible.


Terrha 2040

En 2021, Ÿnsect a lancé son programme d’agriculture régénérative en partenariat avec notamment Pur Projet, Noriap et des Enfants et des Arbres. Ÿnsect, aux côtés de ces partenaires, s’engagent à planter sur le territoire des Hauts-de-France d’ici à 2040, près de 1700 km de haies, soit 1,8 millions d’arbres chez 1100 agriculteurs partenaires pour une séquestration de plus de 190 000 tonnes de CO2, une amélioration de la biodiversité locale, lutter contre les effets du réchauffement climatique, renforcer la fertilité des sols et stocker du carbone.

Analyse du cycle de vie

Nous menons des analyses du cycle de vie (ACV), outil le plus abouti en matière d’évaluation globale et multicritères des impacts environnementaux. Cette étude nous permet de dire aujourd’hui que notre activité est carbone négative : nous évitons et séquestrons plus de CO2 que nous en émettons.

Réduction des émissions de gaz à effet de serre

pour réduire de 50% nos émissions de gaz à effet de serre, nous travaillons à construire des fermes verticales pour économiser la surface au sol, et à améliorer notre consommation d’énergie et de nourriture pour nos insectes.
