🎯 About the role

Reporting to the Tech team, alongside Aurélien, our CTO, you’ll work as a Senior Backend Engineer focused on improving our overall architecture to support WeWard’s growth and ambitions. You’ll contribute to the development of new, innovative features for our application.

At WeWard, we’re entering an exciting new phase of evolution — expanding far beyond a simple step counter. You’ll have the opportunity to work on major upcoming initiatives!

You’ll face the challenge of operating a large-scale international platform handling billions of interactions and strong peaks of activity every day. Excellence is key: in a consumer app used worldwide, every percentage point of performance, stability, or quality directly translates into user growth—or loss.

Your impact/responsabilities

As a Senior Backend Engineer at WeWard, you will:

• Design, develop, test, and deploy reliable and maintainable code (APIs or scripts).

• Optimize and improve the performance of SQL queries and Python code.

• Take initiative and be capable of leading projects from start to finish.

We’re looking for someone with a strong command of Python, ideally with experience in Flask (though we’re also open to other Python web frameworks such as Django or FastAPI).

You should be comfortable building and consuming APIs, care deeply about code quality, and know that Automation and CI/CD aren’t characters from Hogwarts 🧙— but key parts of a solid deployment process.

Beyond pure development, we expect you to challenge the infrastructure, propose meaningful improvements, and collaborate effectively with DevOps, Product, and Marketing teams 🤝

Preferred experience

You’re the perfect match if…

• You have 5+ years of experience as a Backend Engineer, with hands-on exposure to large-scale, high-traffic systems and a strong sense of ownership over what you build.

• You love combining continuous improvement and agility, always bringing new ideas to the table. At WeWard, our spirit is Test & Learn — we trust you to experiment (we deploy to production around ten times a week!).

• You have a natural interest in the startup world and want to make a tangible impact in your next adventure.

Recruitment process

1. 30-min technical chat with your future manager — to dive into the role and missions.

2. At-home case study followed by a 1 hour debrief with 3 collaborators, including time for mutual feedback.

3. 30-min call with Kaënaath, our Talent Acquisition Specialist — to discuss your background, expectations, and introduce you to WeWard.
