Job description

As a Junior R&D Engineer in Mechanical and Digital Simulation, you will play a central role in the development of Wandercraft’s innovative products. Your main mission will be to design, test, and optimize the robot’s mechanical and thermal architecture to ensure its structural integrity and optimal operation while ensuring controlled weight and sufficient stiffness to enable efficient and reliable operation of the robotic bipedal gait.

Within the Mechanical Department, you will join the Robotics Design Team and work closely with the Control, System, Electronics, Product, Quality, and Clinical teams.
You will be involved in the development of future platform versions, as well as the continuous improvement of the version currently deployed in healthcare centers.

Your activities will include:

In-depth structural analysis:

  • Modeling of load cases from experimental data (on-board stress sensors, etc.),

  • Creation of FEA simulation models (mesh, element selection, data entry, etc.),

  • Post-processing of results:

    • Identification of critical areas,

    • Model behavior,

    • Writing a simulation report.

Design and innovation:

  • Research into technical solutions to improve the compactness, rigidity, functional integration and manufacturability of parts (via optimization methods),

  • Relevant selection of materials and manufacturing processes,

  • Collaboration with product teams to take into account design, cost, ergonomic and industrialization constraints.

Experimental validation:

  • Carrying out mechanical tests on prototypes and correlation with simulation results,

  • Drafting of test protocols and test reports (material characterization on test specimens, etc.).

Cross-functional and knowledge sharing:

  • Active participation in team life and multidisciplinary exchanges,

  • Capitalization on simulation methods (procedures, reports, etc.),

  • Presentation of simulation results to a non-specialist audience.

This list is not exhaustive and is subject to change.

This job offer is also available in French language on request.

Preferred experience

  • Diploma: high-level education in mechanics (engineering school or equivalent university course)

  • Experience: specialization in numerical simulation applied to structural mechanics.

Joining Wandercraft means taking part in a unique technological and human adventure. To support our growth and enable us to develop a broader product portfolio, we are looking for dynamic, rigorous, and curious individuals who are eager to transform innovation into industrial reality. In particular, the following qualities are expected for this position:

🧑 ‍ 🎓 Training and technical background:

With a high-level education in mechanics (engineering school or equivalent university course), you have acquired a specialization in numerical simulation applied to structural mechanics. You are proficient in finite element calculation tools and have a detailed understanding of mechanical, static and dynamic phenomena.

You are able to model complex systems by integrating the realistic constraints of a physical device (contacts, nonlinear materials, specific boundary conditions), while maintaining a critical eye on the results.

Mastery of Abaqus software is essential .

🧪 Experience in simulation and testing:

You have already led simulation projects closely linked to test campaigns: you know how to compare numerical results with experimental reality, and refine your models accordingly. You are aware of the potential gaps between theory and practice, and know how to anticipate or correct them methodically.

In order to have homogeneity in the team, we are looking for a junior profile.

⚙️ Project approach and work environment:

You enjoy working in a responsive environment, with tight deadlines and rapidly changing priorities. You are comfortable managing multiple tasks simultaneously, while ensuring the rigor and traceability of your results. You are organized, autonomous, and able to clearly communicate your technical choices to both experts and non-technical contacts.

💡 Innovation, curiosity and impact:

You are driven by the search for new solutions, you enjoy understanding the limitations of existing tools and testing the latest methodological or software advances. You thrive in environments where technology is used to achieve a concrete and positive impact, particularly in the medical or technological fields in the broadest sense.

🤝 Teamwork and collaboration:

You have good interpersonal skills, enjoy constructive technical discussions, and know how to work closely with mechanical designers, electronics engineers, developers, clinicians, or project managers. You are a good listener, a good teacher, and ready to share your knowledge to help the team progress collectively. You are comfortable in English and will thrive in an international environment.

Skills:

  • Structural calculation, dimensioning, solid mechanics (resistance of materials, treatments): autonomous

  • FEA modeling, contacts, connectors, meshing: autonomous

  • Analysis of simulation results (displacement, constraints, forces, etc.): autonomous

  • Writing simulation reports (model and results): autonomous

  • Writing protocols & test reports: basic knowledge

  • Python scripts: basic knowledge

  • English: expert

  • Abaqus Software: autonomous

Recruitment process

Technical and motivational interviews. The aim of technical interviews is to assess your skills in the following areas:

  • General mechanics (kinematics, statics, dynamics, etc.),

  • Use of finite element software and critical analysis of results (Abaqus),

  • Dimensioning of parts and structures (including ductile, fragile, and composite),

  • Knowledge of different heat treatments,

  • Ability to establish a test protocol, as well as design and carry out a test and critically evaluate the results obtained,

  • Use of scientific calculation software and creation of scripts.
