Job description

Are you passionate about shaping safety culture on one of the UK’s most significant infrastructure projects?
Do you thrive in a specialist, technical environment where your expertise directly influences operational excellence and the wellbeing of teams?

The Geotechnical Sub Alliance (GSA)—a major delivery partner within the Sizewell C nuclear new build—is looking for a driven and experienced Senior Health & Safety Advisor to join our collaborative alliance. This is your opportunity to be at the heart of a groundbreaking engineering project, supporting the safe delivery of complex geotechnical works including piling, diaphragm walls, soil mixing, and grouting.

Why This Role Matters

The GSA is responsible for preparing the ground for a nationally significant energy project using advanced geotechnical methods and heavy specialist equipment. Your leadership will ensure the teams working on these high‑risk, high‑impact activities operate safely, confidently, and in line with world‑class H&S standards.

About the role:

As our Senior Health & Safety Advisor, you will:

  • Champion and embed a positive, proactive H&S culture across the alliance.
  • Lead and develop a small team of H&S Advisors, fostering growth and continuous improvement.
  • Drive the implementation of the Health & Safety Strategy, ensuring compliance and delivering measurable performance improvements.
  • Manage and report H&S data, providing insight and strategic recommendations to the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Lead incident investigations, ensuring robust root cause analysis and organisational learning.
  • Liaise confidently with clients, regulators, and supply chain partners on all H&S matters.
  • Develop and refine project H&S procedures and Safe Systems of Work for high‑risk operations.
  • Deliver leadership engagement tours, audits, and site mentoring to embed safety excellence.
  • Provide competent, current advice on relevant HSE legislation, hazards, and best practice.

Preferred experience

You are a confident communicator with the ability to engage and build strong relationships at every level—from field operatives to senior leaders. You’re passionate about driving cultural change, detail‑oriented, calm under pressure, and determined to continuously innovate and elevate safety standards.

Essential Qualifications

  • IOSH membership (Chartered or MIIRSM)
  • NEBOSH Construction Certificate (or equivalent)
  • CSCS Managers & Professionals card
  • Full UK driving licence

Essential Experience

  • Strong background in Geotechnical Engineering / piling environments
  • Proven experience in incident investigation and root cause analysis
  • Experience leading H&S at Senior Advisor or Management level
  • Competence in producing safety reports, briefings, and procedures
  • Coaching, mentoring, or people‑management experience

Desirable

  • NVQ Level 5 Diploma in OH&S Practice
  • NEBOSH Fire or Environmental Certificates
  • Experience working within Joint Ventures or Alliances
