Location: Hinkley Point C, Somerset
Arrangement: Permanent
Work arrangement: Hybrid, minimum 3 days on site and 2 days working from home.

NUVIA UK's Technical Services & Consulting department is fast growing with hybrid opportunities available up and down the country. We're striving to create a multidisciplinary team to offer our clients the best range of talent.

BPSS clearance will be required at basic level. Prior clearance will not be transferable.

Overview:

EDF Energy’s ambition is to construct and operate up to 2 new nuclear plants (pairs of EPRs) in the UK, the first of which is at Hinkley Point C (HPC), in Somerset.

The Joint Design Office (JDO) has been created to reinforce the HPC site-based engineering to quickly respond to engineering queries and problems coming from site construction, to deliver the schedule and to deliver an increased scope of work. A primary benefit of this organisation is to save time for construction on site by having reactive answers and solutions to pursue their activities.

The Role:

Reporting to an Engineering Lead within the Review & Acceptance Branch of the JDO, the post-holder will be an experienced Mechanical Engineer, contributing to the review and acceptance of engineering queries raised by the site Contractor on the Equipment scope across the CI/BOP and Nuclear Island buildings.

The role will be focused on the Turnkey discipline dealing with various Turnkey contractors delivering in both NI and CI-BOP areas but will be interfaced with other disciplines and with several parties, such the site Contractors (composed of main suppliers and sub-suppliers), Construction teams, Quality teams, Project Management teams, or Design teams (embedded within the JDO organisation on site, or in back office).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responding to General Queries, Non-Conformances, Change Request, and Exemption Requests originating from the Turnkey Contractor on site, with the support of the Responsible Designer or site Experts when needed.
  • Provide adequate oversight to ensure the Nuclear Safety and Environmental Regulation requirements are met.
  • Challenge design decisions so that engineering and design aligns with the project strategy.
  • Assist in co-ordinating support from other external organisations.
  • Contribute to the resolution and closure of Open Points.
  • Assess technical risk and subsequently address this risk.
  • Maintain a strong relationship with EDF EPR Engineering (Responsible Designer)
  • Report operationally to an Engineering Lead.

Preferred experience

  • Degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Extensive experience in Equipment design, installation and/or commissioning.
  • Experience applying multi-disciplinary technical knowledge within the nuclear industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of the construction / installation industry.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation including CDM and Nuclear Site License requirements.
  • Experience in the understanding of welding engineering.
  • Ability to influence a diverse range of stakeholders, particularly those in a site environment.
  • Ability to work independently, be pro-active, report on and escalate relevant issues.
