The Walsh-VINCI Transit Community Partners (WVTCP) Joint Venture consisting of VINCI Construction Grands Projets and Walsh Construction has been selected to construct the $2.9BN Design Build Red Line Extension (RLE) project – the largest civil construction contract ever awarded by the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA).

The RLE Mainline Design-Build (MDB) Project will extend the CTA's Red Line by 5.6 miles, extending from the existing terminal at 95th/Dan Ryan south to 130th Street and Doty Avenue.

We are currently seeking Field Engineers with expertise in the following areas:

As a Field Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting the Area Manager, Project Engineer and Superintendents in the field and office.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Extract quantities and activities from drawings to build schedules.
  • Communicate and coordinate with Design/Construction Engineers for the establishment of their schedule.
  • Create and maintain Design/Purchase/Construction schedules based on specific requirements from multiple departments.
  • Update, maintain, and revise monthly and weekly schedules and reports.
  • Compare, and report on comparisons of monthly schedules with regards to changes, delays, or accelerations.
  • Participated in the preparation of Time Impact Analysis for the purpose of analyzing and implementing mitigation procedures to the project schedule.
  • Identify warnings and risks to the project for the purpose of mitigating the impact of these risks.
  • Analyze monthly schedules and prepare reports for the purpose of dispute resolution.
  • Participate in the preparation of baseline CPM Schedule.
  • Support change order preparation regarding time impacts and delays.
  • Assist in the analyzing competitive subcontractor and supplier bids.
  • Populate schedule with resource and cost information.
  • Support MOT design review throughout development, coordinating with disciplines and stakeholders.
  • Assists the development of design drawings and provides technical input, as needed.
  • Reviews required Job Hazard Analysis to ensure a safe and compliance work environment for all construction personnel.

Salary:

$80,0000 - $100,000.00

Work Environment: 

  • Involves a dynamic and challenging work environment.
  • Includes tasks such as maintaining and repairing heavy machinery, ensuring equipment operates efficiently, and adhering to safety protocols in construction sites.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, and reflective vests when on-site.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift 25lbs.
  • Walking and standing while in-office or on-site.
  • Occasional climbing on and off equipment and bending to inspect.

Preferred experience

Qualifications:

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management from an accredited institution.
  • 1-3 years’ Engineering experience in civil and structural works.
  • Ability to interface and effectively communicate with others.
  • Proven skill and ability to identify and mitigate scheduling issues for simple and complex construction projects.
  • Proficient with the generation and maintenance of cost and resource loaded schedules.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to self-prioritize and self-start projects and task work.
  • Ability work under pressure and to effectively multi-task similar activities in a fast paced, time sensitive environment.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of traffic management principles and safety regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective coordination and stakeholder engagement.

Preferred

  • Familiarity with CTA standards is strongly preferred.
  • Previous MOT, Utilities, and/or Roadway works heavy civil construction experience preferred
