Socomec Group (Socomec) is a global leader in electrical equipment engineering and manufacturing, specialized in low voltage energy performance.
Socomec North America (NAM) is Socomec’s organization overseeing all operations in North America.
About This Role
This Jr. Electrical Engineer position will contribute to the system-level electrical design and development of high-power electrical systems (up to 2.5 MVA) for Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), Static Transfer Switch (STS), Power Distribution Unit (PDU), and high-power test bay systems. The role involves hands-on design work, compliance with local and international standards, and collaboration with cross-functional teams. The expectation is end to end responsibility, including concept, architecture, detailed design, validation, and support through manufacturing and factory acceptance tests (FAT).
Key Responsibilities And Accountabilities
Support the design and review of electrical systems for UPS, STS, and PDU rated up to 2.5 MVA. Develop detailed schematics and layouts using EPLAN.
Perform busbar design, including thermal analysis for high-current applications. Calculate and select appropriate cable sizes for power systems and harness design. Prepare and maintain BOMs for assigned projects. Manage workflows and data in ERP systems.
Conduct electrical calculations (short-circuit, load flow, protection coordination). Assist in selecting components such as switchgear, transformers, and protective devices.
Contribute to the design of high-power test bays, including integration of grid emulators, recirculation systems, and safety interlocks. Participate in hands-on high-power testing, troubleshooting, and validation of systems. Ensure test setups comply with safety standards and operational requirements.
Apply arc-flash analysis, grounding system design and practices, and safe work procedures for high-voltage/high-current systems. Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA, UL, IEC, and other relevant standards. Diagnose and resolve technical issues in power electronics systems using simulation and analytical techniques to identify and implement effective solutions.
Stay current with emerging trends in power electronics and electrical system design. Integrate innovative techniques to enhance product performance and reliability.
Follow all electrical safety protocols and contribute to risk assessments. Support implementation of safe work practices for high-voltage/high-current systems.
Work closely with other engineers and manufacturing teams. Prepare technical documentation, test procedures, and compliance reports.
